I have the Ranger Quick Jack 5000 and am very pleased with it now that I've played with it enough to properly position the lifts under the frame rails. According to Reg, the outer frame rails are sufficiently strong to support the car and give quite a bit more working room underneath the central undersides of the car. I was able to change out my T5 trans for a TKO 600 while using the lift (along with a cheap scissors transmission jack from Harbor Freight) so there is pretty good room under there when all the way up.
There are compromises to be sure. A two-post lift would be ideal for the ease of accessing everything. But the bang for the buck is pretty good with the quick jack.

Bought these LED lights for my KwikLift. I also used adhesive magnetic tape on the back of the lights and then I can move the led light bars where ever I need and magnetically stick them on. No wires and 2 brightness settings. They stick the the side of the ramps and since the sides are angled it directs the light perfectly. Sold in pairs so one for the left ramp and the other for the right...Nothing fancy. But the KwikLift is awesome!

I did not see it in the posts - there was a great thread about hand made work posts.
I think Dean started the thread a few years ago. I know I made a set and use them once in a while ( a lift has some great advantages ).
They basically are 2 x 12 wood built to allow a cobra to drive up onto and then the sides can be pulled out to allow work under the car. One extra feature is - it can be put away when not in use.
I do not have pictures, but someone might be able to find the old thread. Update: look up wood ramp.

Ranger lift
I have a Ranger Bendpak 3500 lifts my Backdraft and my FF5 Coupe with no problems. Can be ordered with either AC or DC power. Safe and dependable. I would highly recommend it. It has two lift levels and safety locks. Lightweight and can be left on the floor and drive over it to parking if space is tight.

Well I just ordered the QuickJack 3500 setup.
I'll post my experience with them when I get them in and test them.
Looks perfect for my use. Was goint to purchase the Max Jax but it looks like a lot of trouble to move it out of the way when not in use. Also, not completely sure just how thick my slab is.

I've been looking for a Kwik Lift for a while now. Finally found one relatively close buy. Bought it and it works perfect. Although it's not a full lift so you can walk under the car, it get it up high enough to get under iy and do what needs to be done. The thing I like best is that it is solid. Very safe. I like it.

Update.
Took the advice from a member here, "mrmustang", to follow a lead he had on a Kwik Lift. The owner hated it and said he would part with it. I got the full kit, extra center bridge and a four piece set of casters. $300 (no joke). New would be $1823 before shipping.

I picked up a MaxJax lift from Costco for 1,999.00 at the sale price a few years ago. Is great but you do need to have the concrete in the floor set up for it. I think its on sale now. Its just enough room for me to slide around with my short roller seat.

Looks just like mine and I love it too! Garage is about same as mine as well.
Enjoy it! One thing I did was put some white electrical tape on dead center on the rear lifting bar and I put a couple little ones on the base of the lift on each side of front wheels. That helps my wife line me up coming in and tells her when I am far enough. Once my wheels are centered on the little white tabs, I'm good.

If I want to lift less that 24" off the ground I put bar across and under the quick jacks and lift with floor jack then put jack stands under bars in back and in front close to the quick jacks and nothing is in the way. Bars, jack, and jack stands go into the trailer in case need to get under car while away from home. Don't like the four post for working on cars as much as two post. Life sure is better than when I was a kid and had to straddle curb to get under cars, had to hope no one watered and filled the gutter up, I would have to stop and let the gutter dry out. lol.

Works pretty good.
Raises it to the height of my floor jack all the way up. If I want it higher, I put jackstands under it then add a block on top of the quickjack and get another 6" or so.
And It stores in the corner of the garage in about 2 sq ft. of floor space.

Or hang two ping pong balls from the ceiling with fishing line, roughly 4-6 feet apart, and align them with the driver's side hood latch when the car is on the ramp (but still hanging above the windscreen). You can then use the two balls :D and the hood latch like a gun sight and you will be within an inch of center on the ramp every single time and without requiring someone else to help you. ;) |
