After reading all of this I checked with my insurer, American Bankers Insurance Company who are USAA affiliates. My 2004 Backdraft has a Florida Title & Registration that says 1964 Cobra. Maxine Chatman, Maxine.C@americancollectors.com, explained to me that the date on the title and registration drives rates but usage by the individual matters even more. The Backdraft info is in my file and isn't material. I have a stated value policy of $45,500 and pay less than $500/yr.
Maxine is a real person and you get to real people instead of voicemail systems. They are actually enthusiasts and eager to speak with collectors. Her phone is 800-630-6302, extension 221. I am sorry for the heartburn others have had but it helped me feel right about my situation. CYA, Mike |
Stated value and agreed value are two different things, but I guess you know that.

Tim (and any other NJ owners), Did you ever find your solution to insuring your Montana LLC / NJ owned Cobra (e.g., Midwest Classics)? I'm starting the build process for a Vintage Motorsports Backdraft Racing Cobra. I live in NJ as well. Jay from VMS filled me in on the NJ registration issue so I'm starting the Montana LLC process. Next up will be insurance and Jay recommended Midwest Classics. I'd like to hear how any of you solved the insurance mystery. Much appreciated! John |
I used Robin and Midwest ,had no issues, I pay a little under 5 for Insured Value of 53,500 any time i called or emailed Robin responded quickly to resolve any issues, had for about 3 years now .

I'm in NY and use Condon & Skelly of NJ. Competitive rates. Been with them since 1983 continuously though, that might make a difference.

Appreciate the follow up responses from everyone.

Of course, I do not have to worry about that with my new build, because nobody is going to insure a race car  |

My 2001 Cobra (registered as a 2001 Custom, insured as a "Cobra Replica") is insured through Condon & Skelly (one of the companies on your list that you say you called and said no?). They are happy to insure any classic/vintage car or motorcycle for me, they have never said no. Anyway, my premium for this year is $425. Try them again, something doesn't sound right here.

This is an interesting thread.
I just called for insurance for my Hurricane Cobra I am just finishing building. I first got an online quote from Grundy. They quoted ~780 for the year, online estimate. I called NCM, they ran my record and saw two small claims from the past couple years, both with payouts of about $2000. Both minor brushes with other cars in parking lots, but deemed my fault. They quoted me $11K for the year. I called back Grundy, discussed the claims, and the rep called her underwriter, who said he had no issue with it, and the final quote from them was about $650. The post is funny to me because after getting a 5 figure quote, anything in the 3 figures seems like a blessing. |
I am in NJ. I pay $750 a year through Hagerty. I have Geico for my other vehicles. They wouldn't insure my 2014 Backdraft Cobra.

I have State Farm. very pleased with the rate, and I have agreed value. I have my other cars and all my properties insured with them as well. that affects the rates. It’s registered as a 1965
|
Mine is registered as a 1965 Ford in AZ. It was inspected by ADOT and assigned a vin as a 1965 Ford. The insurance will only insure it as 1965 since that is what the title and registration says. I tried to tell them is was built in 2014 but they would only go by the title. I sent them photos when it was insured.

I was shopping at a mall recently. When I went back to my car (my daily driver) I noticed that someone had scuffed my rear bumper backing in/out of the space next to me. Hit and run basically. My policy is with Allstate. I got a quote to repair it for $850. My deductible is $500. Obviously they will only cover $350 of it. Based on previous comments here, maybe I shouldn't claim it if it will affect my Cobra insurance rate through Midwest/American Modern?
