Backdraft Owner Changes
What have you as an owner changed or updated on your BDR from its stock configuration? Anything you wish Backdraft would change on its current stock vehicle specs?
|
Things I changed.
High performance radiator. Headlamp bulbs. Headlight trim rings. Headlight Relay Headlight Switch Shifter Shift Boot Shift Knob Steel pull knobs for headlight switch, hazards, wipers Added radiator guard. Added fire extinguisher in trunk Replacing oil pan for better clearance. Installed starter heat blanket. Installed LED bulbs in reverse lights. These should be standard. New license plate bracket. Rubber gaskets around hood and trunk locks Added stainless steel brake lines. Added Carb Spacer. Added gratuitous Cobra badge on nose and trunk. Installed colored LED bulbs in all dash gauges. |
Overall, I think that my car is well-built and is fun to own and drive. I have had some of the same issues with the lights as listed in the prior post. The melting taillight housings should be a manufacturer's recall as it is a definite safety issue. A related issue is the access to the stoplight switch which makes removal/replacement difficult and impossible in my case. (I converted to a mechanical switch on the brake pedal.)
It is good that the car is well-built because of the pounding that it gets from the overly stiff suspension. An option for a 'touring' suspension with softer springs and fully adjustable shocks would have been nice to have, |
So far in my brief ownership I've added/changed....
E36 LSD w/3.64 ( from an open w/3.42) Oil Cooler w/Thermostat Carb Spacer ( had to slightly adjust hood for clearance) KYB Rear Shocks ( Gabriels were shot before 1k miles) Rubber Grommets on tail lights/blinkers Short Shifter Battery Cobra Emblems 427 Badging Cobra Horn Button Im really impressed with my BDR. My only real complaint is the height of the rear tires as it can bottom out pretty easy hence why i went with stiffer shocks and adjust ride height. Ive often wondered about the 92" wheelbase of the BDRs. I think its very tastefully done and I love the look of my BDR ( and the room it provides for tall individuals) but wonder if it was done for that reason or another vs going with the original 90" wheelbase. |
I have a late 2004 build. It currently has about 56k Miles. This list is quite long but here goes. BTW I have all the receipts.
Drilled wheel lug holes to accept longer grip lug nuts (8 threads instead of 3) Drilled and slotted brake rotors and new pads Rerouted clutch line over foot box with braided steel flex line .391 LSD Repaired broken rear end torque arm(s) by welding supplied kit. 2nd roll bar New inside door latches (pulled apart) Half round weather striping under hood Chrome louvers Speed Hut GPS Speedo Speed Hut shift light Tach VDO SAE reading gauges and transmitters KYB rear shocks VW Jetta front shocks New reworked front shock spinals (completely worn out) Overhauled steering rack and mounting blocks. New ball joints Steel brake hoses Lexan windshield (2 cracked glass ones) Moto Lida steering wheel Sheep skin seat covers Radiator Screen made at Ace Hardware, held in by Velcro Stainless Steel Products Mufflers (gained 32 RWHP) Hose clamps around rubber muffler hangers Scupper drains in foot wells (It rains in CO.) Cigarette Lighter outlet LED turn, brake, running lights Cool air ducts from brake inlet to both master cylinders Remote Chrome oil filter (cooling) There's more but I'll have to remember them. It's almost like the late models now. ;o) |
