New Backdraft Owner

Glad to be part of the club as a new bdr owner #964. I have two questions that I hopeful can get some answers for.

1. Does anyone use rubber hose or wire insulation over wheel safety wire? If so what do you use and where can it be bought? Looking to us more than just the wire around the wheel spokes.
2. Have Vdo gauges and I noticed when driving my voltmeter needle gets up almost to max I believe at 15 volts, and wonder if this is normal and won't cause any issues.

Thank you.

Doug

Welcome on board, hope that you enjoy your ride. I use some rubber hose, the size that is typically used for vacuum hoses on carbs. It does protect the wheel spokes. Just cut off about 4" lengths and fish the safety wire through it. The good weather will be soon upon us.

Go over the car with a fine tooth comb to make sure everything is intact. These cars are not like standard cars, in which low mileage is a good thing. Low mileage in these cars means that the prior owner has not had enough time in the car to properly sort out any build issues that it may have. They all have at least minor build issues. Go slow until you get used to the power and handling characteristics of the car.

Good luck.

^THIS!!

Also, your volt gauge, does it peg 15v or does it go 'almost' to 15v? If I am nost mistaken, you should be close to 14.7v while the car is running.

We use model aircraft fuel hose, it is clear and very durable. We buy the 1/8" I.D. hose for .20 per foot at the hobby shop. Works very well........

Heat shrink tubing works well.

Sounds like your voltage regulator on the alternator is no good and you are overcharging. Get that taken care of before the battery goes boom!

It gets up there close to 16volt when driving which I think it is charging but don't know if it is overcharging or not. I have BDR doing a service on the car now so hopefully they will look at this as well.

Thanks

Thanks for advice. I have been long time corvette owner coming from the Z06 and 60th anniversary 427 edition models now to the BDR. Mileage on my Roush 427 is 2800 and I have the car getting a service and few other goodies done at BDR down in boynton.

What else are you getting done to it? I have my annual service coming up soon at Boynton and I am always looking for new ways to piss off the wife by spending more money on the Cobra.

Little laundry list.

1. General service
2. Chrome fire extinguisher
3. Billet pedals
4. Door paint. Previous owner I believe took off paint protectant on drivers side door without using heat gun and it tore into gel coat on top of door so I wanted that fixed.
5. Possibly replacing all paint protectant pieces with newer stuff while I am at it because lower front end piece has bit of yellow in it.

What goodies do you have on your car?

As far as accessories I would ask are you the "nostalgic guy" or a more "modern type" guy. That can determine which way you want to go on dressing up your BDR. I tried to take mine back to a more 60s race look while others like a more modern interpretation.... Neither is wrong in my opinion ; )
