2013 BDR and Roush 427R.....Oil Filter ?

Was going to change my oil this weekend but have a concern on my oil filter placement. Currently it is super close to the frame, actually concerned if it will come off as it it really close (1/4"). It was changed prior to my purchase so I'm sure it will clear when removing it but hate to drain oil and have same filter purchased and have removal/ installation issues. It currently has an FL-1A but I could replace it with an FL300 which is slightly shorter and would easily clear but no one stocks the FL300 locally. I'd rather stick with 1 qt filter if possible as the FL300 I'd 1/2 qt.

Guess my question is for those that have a newer BDR and the Roush 427R is what filter are you using and if t it's the FL-1A, how much room do you have?

I would go with the shorter filter. As often as you are going to change oil, the smaller filter should not make much difference.

I have a 2015 BDR with a Roush 427R. I purchased the Cobra new and the engine was delivered with a Motorcraft oil filter (FL1-HP) and engine oil (10w30). I had the engine oil and filter replaced at 500 miles in accordance with the warranty terms. The filter was replaced with a Motorcraft FL1-HP and the oil was replaced with VAL RACE 10w30.

The K&N HP-2004 is about one inch shorter and allows room for the wrench.

If the old one will come off without modification, the new one will go on. No need to change to a different filter.

If you want to verify before draining the oil, try to remove the filter first. If it won't come off cleanly, then you'll know that you're going to have to put on a shorter filter and probably cut this one off.

It isn't as bad as it looks. Although the clearance is tight, you can get it off and a new one on pretty easy. I have stuck with the FL-1A and changed to Brad Penn partial synthetic (it already has the zinc additive).

I have BDR #359 with a 427R and have had no problem using the FL-1 filter and
Val syn 10W 30 !
6000 miles !
Just barely broken in.
Enjoy!
