giving up

my woes with .082 5th gear and 3.44 rear end at 3000 rpm at 77mph ,its change out t5 or lower rear end and give up all the accelaration

CHANMADD 06-26-2016 01:58 PM

Change the rear ...I have the same T5 with a 2.88 rear
2500rpm I'm doing 80 at least

CHANMADD 06-26-2016 01:59 PM

Also Im changing my wheels and tires for 27 inch diameter tires, most are 26 inch , and stock is 28 inch

Keep your acceleration and get a real overdrive.
I've had .6 then .8 and now back to .6.

What is your first gear? 3.27? 2.87?

Betcha don't much notice accelaration with a 3.07ish gear...esp if it's the 3.27 1st gear

do you have a T-5 or a TKO?

I had first gear changed so it wasn't a granny gearing, taller gear so did not have to shift at 10 mph. In fifth gear just under 2100 rpm and 75 mph. Running 3.56 rear end. T 5 trans.

OP, a 0.82 OD TKO with a 2.92 R&P and 295x60x15 rears will put you at 2000 rpm at about 70 mph. It will have almost exactly the same first gear as a close ratio top loader and a 3.73 R&P — T/L first gear 8.38, TKO first gear 8.65!

If the car is not uncontrollable in first gear the problem is more steam in the boiler.

295 50 15 rear tires, 3.91 diff gear ratio, T5WC with .062 5th gear...and 347cid SBF with 375 HP to wheels at 5900rpm's. Love it! great acceleration but around 1800 rpms at 60 MPH...what is not to like? :D

BTW, just listed an open 3.91 ratio E36 diff.

I run a TKO with .6 final and 3.55 rears, perfect match form me!
