Oil Drain Plug(s)??
I will pre-apologize for my newness and lack of knowledge, but I took a look for the first time in preparation for an oil change and there appears to be two oil drain plugs, one in the deep sump towards the rear of the motor, and one in the semicircular area towards the front of the oil pan. It is an iconic 427 motor.
Do they both need to be opened to drain the oil, or am I misinterpreting what I a seeming by squeezing my head under the car with only six inches of clearance? Thank you. |
That's a strange one. Can you post a pic of your oil pan? I could speculate but would rather see pics and what others say...:cool:

Lowest point of the sump is correct and only one needed unless you have a double sump pan. Something like this....in which case remove them both.

It is exactly like your picture, so I may be crazy but not on this issue, there is two drain plugs.

I believe those were used in some Mustangs and Ford trucks due to cross member clearance issues, probably others as well. Not sure why it would be in your Cobra but yes, just drain them both.;):cool:

Thanks again Bernica, now if I could only figure out if the oil filter will come off since its about 1/2 inch from the frame.

Get yourself a slip wrench filter tool. If no room for the handle, get one that accepts a socket extension like this. Then treat yourself to a nice WIX filter when you change.;)

You may want to think about putting a remote oil filter on the car. It isn't hard to do and you can use a full filter which is what I have done with both of my cars.

If you don't want to do a full on kit (lines /mounts/ etc...)@ $250-350 a 90deg adapter works fine @ $90
