I installed Mickey Thompson Street Comp. 245/45R-16 front, 315/35R-17 rear.
(Same OD front and rear)

Really happy with them. The lettering is recessed so it gives a cleaner sidewall look.

Keith,

I use wear rating 200 tires which are the stickiest street tires the SCCA allows. Anything below 200 is considered (by the SCCA) as a track-only tire. Hoosier slicks for example have a wear rating of 30. The 70K mile Michelins are probably rated at 600 or more.

I have used several brands on and off the track. Currently I use Nitto NT05 tires and they seem to work well in the damp as well as dry. There are probably a dozen other brands available in that wear rating - you pick 'em. Note: these are not the NT05R - the "R" means a lower wear rating than 200.

One of the problems with the Cobra and the stickier tires is that they stink in the rain. If you want to know what driving on grease is like, try a 100 or lower wear rating tire on wet streets.

The NT05s seem to last several track days plus maybe 10K on the street which I find reasonable.

Come to think of it, at one time the Backdrafts used the NT05 as OEM. No idea what they use now...

Hope this helps,

Tom

I currently use Nitto NT-05 on the street and Nitto NT-01 on the track. The 01 are way grppier but are a very soft tire and cant be driven on the street.

I have also used NT-05 front and NT-05R in the rear for about 3k miles on the street. These worked fairly well on the track but rears were pretty much worn out at 3k miles.

I had been running Michelin Pilot Sports and they were a very good tire. Switched to the Nitto 555 Extreme and they have really worked out great. Would recommend that you consider the Nittto 555 Extreme for your car.
