Filling those pesky reservoirs.

I have had my car for almost 2 years so I figured it was time to check the fluid in the hydraulic clutch reservoir. It was working fine but what the heck. Also, I can see the fluid is low in the brake master cylinder. Of course, they are a pain to get to. I know I will at some time in the future switch them to remote reservoirs but have yet to do so. I removed the vent as per recommendations on here to access the clutch master but I came upon this idea by chance for putting the fluid in. An infant nasal aspirator. It worked quite well for both. See pics.

Hi Fred

Good idea!

BTW, this is why we equip our Backdraft Cobras with the remote reservoirs as we don't want our customers to have to go through this.

Take care and burn some fuel!

Jeff

Looks like a snot-sucker.

a syringe with a hose on it (off amazon) works great for me.

The SPF brake reservoir is in a horrible location, I fill by feel using the syringe.

Jeff. Which remote reservoirs do you install? Is it a fairly easy swop-out?

Good Morning. Sorry for the tardy reply.

Here's what we use: Welcome, Please Sign In - Jamar Performance Products

Yes, pretty easy to do. Just be VERY carefull to not get fluid on painted surfaces. So covering everything will make it much easier. You may need to bleed brakes and clutch but not necessarily.

Take care,

Jeff

Seeing as how you need to change the clutch master to a remote style, you most definitely will need to bleed the system. You would know this if you have ever installed a set.

Thanks for the remote Reservoir info.

What is the correct hose to use between the remote reservoir and the master cylinder?

spdbrake 10-12-2020 06:24 AM

EPDM type hoses and o-rings work well with brake fluid.

Tygon plastic (clear) hose.

Or you can purchase hose thru Wilwood brakes in 3ft sections or by the Inch if in doubt.

I am fiddling with making my own remote triple reservoirs. I used these beautiful, cheap(about $4 each), small, aluminium, side-outlet touch-up paint pots mounted onto a custom aluminium backplate/bracket (still to mount in the car). They are mounted with the 10mm barb adapters which will feed the hoses at the back. Neat, tidy and no hoses will be visible.

The existing clutch reservoir will get this Wilwood hose-adapter which fits perfectly.

Now I only need to source two hose adapters for the brake master cylinder ports. I'll use 10mm ID EPDM hose between the pots and the hose adapters.

Do these pots have a rubber diaphragm in the lid to keep the pot sealed from the atmosphere, and allow the fluid level to drop as the brakes wear?

Nope, but that is something that I will design and do/install myself as well. However, they do seal very well and have a very small pinhole breather in the lid...

That is ok for the lid, but you still need a rubber diaphragm to keep the outside air away from the fluid. Take a look at any normal master cylinder cap.
