Early BDRs SS Tank clearence to trunk floor

I searched all the Fuel Tank threads and found nothing about clearance to the trunk floor.

My question is how much should there be if any. I removed the tank from BDR #69 during the last few days to repair a fuel gauge issue.

Cleaning the internals of the sending unit (and yes it all came apart) fixed that issue.

I noticed that on each side of the top of the tank there were rub marks where it was resting on the trunk floor. Didn't think that much of it at the time.

To make it easy to access I decided to cut a 4" hole over the sender unit planing on covering it with a cover plate.

After reinstalling the tank which on a closer look is right up against the trunk floor I see the sending unit terminal is higher then the inside trunk floor ?

I have no issue raising the cover to clear it but wonder how much pressure there had to be on that terminal before the hole was cut ?

Anyone else had this issue or are my body mounts squished down too far ?

Just wondering

Yes the trunk floor on mine was contacting the top of the sender.

I made an access panel out .063" 2024 T3 alum. The access panel does not touch the sender as it sits above the floor. Although I primed and painted it
I still attached a section of Velcro fuzzy self stick to the bottom in case it ever had a load in the trunk.

If you have the tube type sender its a VDO PN 224-221 (8.3") approx $33.00.
Ordered mine thru.

Thanks spdbrake

I have the Auto meter gages and sender comes all apart 2 screws and pop the 2 plastic half's apart and clean the contact surfaces with a white ink type eraser then reassemble and it all works great again.

I like your velcro idea I used a SS 7" septic pipe Drain Cover with a little mod ( $11 on amazon)
