Backdraft Key copies

2 Attachment(s)
Hey, guys so I bought my car last year and only received one key from the seller. He lost the other. I've gone to 5 different places and no one can find this key to make me a copy. I know I can just buy a new ignition that comes with a new set of keys but I'm just trying to make a copy for now. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I'm in NJ close to Newark airport.

The key I need is this middle one.

Did you call backdraft to find out the part number for the blank?

CobraJeff17 02-06-2021 01:05 AM

No I didn't try that. I figured they would tell me to buy a whole new ignition. I'll try them in the morning. Thanks

What did they say?

So I called Backdraft and they said those keys come from Africa so they don't have a model # or spare. They suggested I just buy a new ignition that comes with a set of new keys. So thats what I'll do. In a month or so I'm planning on sending the car over to Jay at Vintage Motorsports for it's yearly service and have them install a new ignition for me.

These guys specialize in hard to find and Euro blanks.
You just need the key code stamped on the key.
One key code I gave them was for British Autos 1965-1987.

Cost should be around $8 / key.

Had several made (both trunk and ignition) and all worked.
Previously tried (3) other places to no avail.

Thanks guys I appreciate the advice. Unfortunately there's no code on the key lol. It's completely blank. But it's ok fellas I'm just going to purchase a new ignition that comes with 2 new keys. I prefer it this way anyways. The old owner most likely still has the other key. You never know he may miss the car and try to come to my house and take it for a ride hahaha. So really for piece of mind I rather get everything new. Thanks for the help everyone.

If you want a USA made switch (instead of the China made Iconic sells)
(You only need a OFF and ON switch).

I don't if this will help you but I had a problem with spare keys. My BDR build is # 487. The blank keys are Ilco
Ignition blank is # Ilco #X254
Trunk and hood is Ilco #62FS
Old style gas cap is Ilco #1639 DL1
I hope this will help.

English cars I have owned in the past (MG, Lotus, Austin Healey, Jaguar) have all used keys that look like my Backdraft key. Perhaps Moss Motors or one of the other English car catalog places could shed some light on this just from the pics....

Come to think of it, my Triumph Bonneville and Norton Commando had the same style of key as well...another lead to chase.
