Fuel Sender Gasket help

Hey guys.

I continually have a fuel smell from 24hrs after I get home from a cruise. I replaced the carb as I had a leaky Street Avenger and baseplate throttle shaft... and I still have the smell.

I'd like to verify my fuel sender gasket but the trunk floor does not have an access panel already cut. Any advice on this? I have an alum tank.

Where is the best place to cut an access panel? On the BDR site, it looks like it's off to the left?

Edit: I have a locking gas cap and it seems to fit plenty tight.

The sender is approx centered. I used and Endoscope attached to my phone to locate the direction the wiring came from to the sender (from the right on my car). I then drilled 4 corner holes with various step Uni-bits. Be careful the tank is approx 3/4" below the trunk.
Used a cutoff wheel on a Dremel to cut a 6x6" opening connecting the 4 holes I drilled.
I used a Rivnut puller to install nut-certs, and attached a .063" alum cover plate. I used fuzzy self-stick Velcro in the underside of the plate to prevent grounding of the Sender wiring.

On a side note due to the age of your car I'd take a look at replacing ALL the fuel hoses as they suffer from fuel permeation thought the casing. The only exception to this being Hard lines and Teflon hoses. I've seen a few posts where folks changed only the braided Carb hose and called it good. Not good.

Mine were ALL spongy from the large fill hoses, to the pump, to the, filters, to the regulator, to the carb. (E85 accelerates the permeation of the rubber)

I don't use braided hose on the fuel system anymore as I sleeve all the fuel hoses and brake lines in the engine compartment with DEI slip-on or Velcro heat sleeving.

Edit: 'mechanic' is in quotes because I found a number of very questionable things that no self-respecting mechanic would ever admit to.

I just changed my fuel supply line for that very reason last month ,always smelt fuel and was working next to line and noticed it felt damp .:JEKYLHYDE

Doesn't give exact location but its hard to miss after you drop the tank
