Can I remove these spacers under my seat?

New to me #496. I spent all my swear jar money on it and I love it, but my right leg hits the steering wheel. So trying to get lower in the car. Can I remove this and the slider still function?

Do you need to adjust the seat? If not, attach it right on the floor, it will give you a couple of inches. I have #595 I did it, no problem.

I'd remove the box the seat apparently is bolted on to and leave the spacer and slider to get more legroom.

I may not be the only driver, someday, so I'd like to keep that option, for now. |

looks like a spacer there that can be removed...probably two in the back of the seat too.

I'd say 'yes' to the black spacer, but 'no' to the silver one. You may need to put some reinforcement under the silve spacer if you remove the black one to give the slider enough space to properly function. Consider either a thinner version of the black one or at least a large diameter fender washer. Is "large diameter fender washer" redundant? |

Vehicle safety standards here (Saskatchewan, Canada) require functioning seat sliders, though I don't believe they actually checked that while inspecting my car. |

Mine only has the silver ones, maybe the PO removed the blacks ones on mine. My guess is that the silver one are probably needed to get clearance for the slider to work. |

I don't think we have any safety standards here in TN :) Just pay your registration fee and off you go. |

They are all the way around. The black spacer is square tubing, and there is smaller square tubing on the fixed passenger side with no silver spacer. |

If you take the black spacer out, the smaller round aluminum standoffs can tear through a fiberglass floor fairly easily if there are no larger flat plates to spread the seat loading over a greater area. The larger protective spacers do not need to be very thick, 3/16" to ¼" thick and maybe 2 or 3 inches in diameter with one on each side of the floor to do a better job of protecting your fiberglass flooring.
p.s. Use a reasonably thick flat sheet of medium durometer rubber or a similar diameter thick rubber washer between the protective spacers and the fiberglass floor with some type of locking nut. You want to be careful not to tighten the fastener as if it was a head bolt. If you do, you will crush the fiberglass even with the rubber washers in place. At the same time you don't want your seat fasteners to loosen up while you are driving hence the lock nut suggestion.

The silver spacers look just like the ones Olthoff Racing sells - they're supposed to provide additional legroom for taller drivers.

Refreshing this thread, has anyone done this? I’m buying a RT4 Monday amd the test drive today revealed I need to lower the seat about 2.5”

The original owner was not very tall so we made those spacers (black) to give him a lift. You can remove them and use some fender washers between the silver spacers and the floor/carpet. The silver spacers are necessary for the slider to operate.
