identify my Cobra

I recently acquired an AC Shelby, are there any identifying numbers or markings on the frame that might help me tell who the manufacture was. the car has a 390, two four barrels and a four speed. the hood is rivetted and so is the scoop

You've really narrowed it down to ohhh maybe fifteen manufacturers with your description?

twobjshelbys 11-13-2022 04:24 PM

Your description is as generic as it gets. Might have just as well described a potato.

Pictures will be mandatory. There is usually a tag somewhere in the engine compartment, most often on the driver's side footbox. It has to have some registration number. Most Cobras have their ID on the plate. If it says "Shelby" it's a fake though.

Hold on guys, I just nailed it — He's got an AC Shelby!

4spCobra,
I think you'll have to post here several times before it will allow you to post the pictures referenced in the previous helpful posts. To speed up the process, find some other threads and post innocuous comments to raise your post count. Then post the pictures requested. Being a newby you didn't know what we need. Search for threads similar to yours answered by MrMustang. They'll tell you what pics are needed.

4spCobra,

Welcome to the forum, and as the greeting often goes here: welcome to the madness!

Just hang in there as you learn your way around here. A wealth of info and expertise within the forum. No doubt the experts will assist you, not only to identify the manufacturer of your car but its complete history.

Congrats on your car!

As Comp said, hang in there, some of the old members are only let out of their padded sells once a day to answer questions on this forum! Once you can post some photos, you will be amazed how they can figure out what car you have, and help you make sure it is sorted, so you can enjoy it, or sell it for good money! Cheers, Dennis

Hey! Posters #2 to #4, give 4spCobra a go, will you?
First post, so how about a welcome, rather than sarcasm?

So, welcome 4spCobra. Most of us here aren't grumpy old men :D

As Tommy suggested, after a few posts, you'll be able to then post with some pictures of your car. If you can't work out easily how to do it, just ask.

Cheers!
Glen

welcome 4sp Cobra

if you acquired an AC Shelby Cobra, the manufacturer is either AC Ltd. if it's an European Car or Shelby SAI if it's an American car ;)

4spCobra: If you're having problems posting photos you can always load them up to a photo sharing website and provide a link here.

BTW, if you're an Amazon Prime subscriber you get unlimited photo storage. Of course there are also Flickr, Google Photos and a seemingly unlimited number of other sites.

First thing you want to do is fill in your profile, let people here know where you are geographically speaking (besides that you are in the state of Oklahoma as an example) so if someone is close they may be able to lend you some assistance.

Second, post some pictures of what you have, give a side shot, shots of the engine compartment, firewall, hood, door openings, trunk and dash area so that we can attempt to identify what you actually have on your hands.

Did I mention:
Pictures of the car
Pictures of the engine compartment
Pictures of the trunk
Pictures of the door hinges
Pictures of the dash
Pictures of the suspension
Pictures of the frame

Clear, well lit pictures, don't try and get "artsy", we are looking at the basic details as each kit has it's own unique build signature.

Finally, forget about what the VIN tag says (take a picture of it and post it for possible assistance in identification), as blank AC VIN tags can be had by any number of vendors and hand stamped "at will" by the owner/builder to say anything they wanted it to.

By the way, welcome to the madness..........

Bill S.
