New to me 2023 Backdraft 5.0 Coyote

Hello all, glad to have found this forum. Just got the car off the truck last night and filled it with fuel. Now have fuel leaking down the front of the aluminum fuel cell onto the garage floor. Is there a way to access the top of the tank through the trunk? Looks like I have a shoebox size panel that is riveted in, but I don’t want to drill these out if it won’t get me anywhere.

Thanks,
Wil

I don't know the answer.
All the previous posts are searchable on Club Cobra, so your answer might be here already.

I don't know where you are, but James Yale is our local Backdraft dealer and he could tell you. Google Radical Roadsters.

This is what my trunk floor looks like. The panel was held in with some sheet metal screws. I installed Rivnuts instead.

If yours is rivited in, then you'll have to drill them out. I would flush the area with a lot of water first, though. A drill motor could cause an explosion/fire.

Go back to the dealer who you bought the car from and ask them for help.

I would love to, but the dealer is in South Florida and the car is in Colorado. I will drill the rivets in the boot and see if the panel gives me access to the top of the cell.

I have seen this on several cars.

It is possible that the pump/sending unit bolts are too tight creating flex and leak.

If you see fuel from either I would remove, replace the qasket and reinstall by snugging the bolts

If you completely filled the tank, that may be your issue. Go burn some off getting used to your new baby and see if the leak persists...could just be too much coming out the vent...

I had the same thing in my Godzilla BD. Just had to pull the panel in the trunk (bolts, not rivets) and then tighten all the screws you see in the post from bobcowan. No leaking now.

By the way, I'm in CO as well, Golden area. Let me know if you'd like to meet up.

Thanks all. The bolts for the access panel were so stripped, they looked like rivets. So after drilling them out, found the pump assembly collar to be leaking. Got a new gasket set on the way from Aeromotive today to seal it up.
