Electric Fuel Pump Access
I'm looking to access the top of my aluminum fuel tank to get to the pump. My car doesn't have the access panel in the floor like I've seen on some cars. I'm hoping I don't have to drop the tank. Are people cutting through the floor to get to it then patching it up? I really don't want to hack the car up unless there's a clean way to do this. Thanks.

I created my own door - my 2005 car did not have one.
The fiberglass is not too thick. Once there, I created an edge with scrap and expoxy. Just to verify - my pump was external - I was checking for leaks at the sender. Do you have an internal pump? |
Pump is internal. Do you have a picture of what you did? Hopefully it will fit flush so the carpet doesn't look wavy.

Dropping the tank is usually the best way to do it without hacking anything up permanently.

Whoops! I can just duplicate it in the correct thread...
As to the original thread, I did the hole in the trunk floor route since I seemed to be removing the tank for rehab every few months for a while. I saved the trunk carpet piece and glued it to the removed square of floor and reinstalled the piece. It's obvious when looking at the floor but not obnoxious! Tom |
