Electric Fuel Pump Access

I'm looking to access the top of my aluminum fuel tank to get to the pump. My car doesn't have the access panel in the floor like I've seen on some cars. I'm hoping I don't have to drop the tank. Are people cutting through the floor to get to it then patching it up? I really don't want to hack the car up unless there's a clean way to do this. Thanks.

I created my own door - my 2005 car did not have one.

The fiberglass is not too thick. Once there, I created an edge with scrap and expoxy.

Just to verify - my pump was external - I was checking for leaks at the sender.
Do you have an internal pump?

Pump is internal. Do you have a picture of what you did? Hopefully it will fit flush so the carpet doesn't look wavy.

Car is in shop

I don't have access right now.

My solution isn't pretty, but sits even to the other floor.

I'll get you a photo next time I'm at the shop

I went to the shop and grabbed an image

PM me your e-mail address and I will send it to you

Dropping the tank is usually the best way to do it without hacking anything up permanently.

If you really want to avoid dropping the tank, some folks create an access panel either in the trunk or under the rear seat, which can be a bit of work but at least doesn’t mess with the structural integrity. Also, check if there are any aftermarket access panel kits available for your car model some shops can install one with minimal damage.

If your car doesn't have an access panel, dropping the tank is typically the most straightforward and clean method, even though it can be time-consuming. Cutting through the floor can work, but it’s crucial to ensure it’s done neatly and safely, avoiding damage to any wiring, structural components, or fuel lines. If you’re set on cutting the floor, are you planning to reinforce the patch afterward to maintain the car's integrity?

If this is factual, it should make some interesting reading.

It does seem to support the GT40's later (but not much later) beating the 427 Cobra's time.

Enjoy!

Sorry, tom. Wrong thread. :)

To the OP. An access door is pretty handy. Since the floor is flat there, it's no big deal to make one.

Whoops! I can just duplicate it in the correct thread...

As to the original thread, I did the hole in the trunk floor route since I seemed to be removing the tank for rehab every few months for a while. I saved the trunk carpet piece and glued it to the removed square of floor and reinstalled the piece. It's obvious when looking at the floor but not obnoxious!
