Electrical

The BDR roadster comes with the electrical for the car completed. The electrical for the engine still needs to be completed by the builder of the car or a certified technician. The car comes completed in 2 different formats and this is relative to the gauge package in the car. Cars with VDO or Smiths Instruments will be wired for electric sender units. Cars with Auto meter Gauges will be wired to accept mechanical instruments.

Wiring type 1

The wiring identification for a car with electronic gauges will be as follows.(VDO or Smiths)

Engine Compartment
1. Heavy Gauge Red, This is the Alternator feed and should be connected to the positive side of the starter, along with the main battery feed
2. Red wire, This is to supply the MSD (or equivalent) with a permanent live feed from the battery and should be connected to the started positive.
3. Grey, this is to activate the starter and should be connected to the solenoid
4. Heavy Gauge Red, This is the alternator feed and should be connected to the rear of the alternator
5. Yellow, this operates the ignition light on the dash and should get connected to the alternator to activate the ignition light when the alternator is not charging
6. Yellow /Black, this wire needs to be connected to the temperature sender unit to operate the water temperature gauge.
7. Black/Red, this wire is for the oil pressure and should be connected to the oil temp sender on the “G” side
8. White/Green, this is for the oil temp sender and should be connected to the sender
9. Green, the roadster comes wired to accept an MSD ignition; this should be connected to the distributor if you are using a MSD ignition box
10. Purple, the roadster comes wired to accept an MSD ignition; this should be connected to the distributor if you are using a MSD ignition box
11. Orange, the roadster comes wired to accept an MSD ignition; this should be connected to the coil if you are using a MSD ignition box
12. Black, the roadster comes wired to accept an MSD ignition; this should be connected to the coil if you are using a MSD ignition box

Wiring Type 2

The wiring for a car with mechanical gauges is much the same as mentioned above except there will be no wires for the water temperature, oil pressure and oil temperature. These cars will require the necessary mechanical senders to be connected to the engine as per manufacturer’s specifications to ensure proper operation.


Cockpit Wiring

As mentioned above the car comes equipped to accept a MSD ignition box. The wiring for this is under the dash on the passenger side. Here you can expect to find the following

1. Orange (MSD Coil)
2. Black (MSD Coil)
3. Purple (MSD Distributor)
4. Green (MSD Distributor)
5. Heavy Gauge Red (MSD Positive Battery feed)
6. Red (Ignition positive)
7 Purple /White (Tach signal)

This wiring needs to be connected onto a MSD unit according to the MSD wiring diagram in conjunction with the way the engine compartment has been completed.
