What The Hek????

Does anyone have any idea why my oil prossure is at 60 at startup and after fully warmed up it goes to 20-40 and when I givie it a little it goes to zero. I know the viscosity is a little thicker when its cold but if the crank case is full why is it dropping like a rock when I stand on it? Do I need to replace the pump, filter, what?

If it is a mechanical gauge, I think I'd pull the pan and plastigage the mains. If it's electric, I'd replace the sending unit first off. Before doing any of the above though, I'd get an auxillary gauge(mechanical) and check it right at the engine.

I assume you mean to say: "Give it a little gas and the gauge drops to zero". How does it do under breaking?

If the oil pickup is in the front of the pan and the oil goes to the back of the pan on accelleration, THATS why your seeing zero. What does the pressure do under heavy breaking?

Another possibility is your oil level in the pan is "low", no matter what the dip stick indicates.

Regardless of any of the above, 20-40 lbs pressure hot doesn't sound right. As stated above, confirm the gauge reading.

Clogged up pickup screen?
