Emergency Brake Adjustment
hey Guys,
Any of you adjusted the Emergency Brake? Mine just pulls up and does not hold the car. Any imput appreciated. this should be an easy one for you Reg. later Dennis |
If your BDR E-brake is similar to the Jag setup you have to install the return springs for the calipers to self adjust. If you do not have return springs you will adjust the E-brake and it will work a few times, then become too weak to hold the car without another under car adjustment. Once the original return springs are installed it will adjust itself each time you use it.

Check the adjustment at the e-brake handle. Mine has sleeves to make the cables shorter with 2 nuts on the end for adjustment. It may be jus the nuts came loose.

Remove your brake lever boot. You'll see two cables, one for each rear brake. Set the rear of the car on jack stands so you can turn each back wheel by hand. Adjust one cable at a time and check to make sure that when the brake lever is released that there is no resistance when you spin the wheel. Anyone can tighten the cables, the trick is to make sure they let go when the lever is released so you don't drive around with one or both brake pads still in contact. You need to adjust them individually or you will never know if they are both set properly. Good luck.
