#211 on the way

Hey gang 211 will be at my house in 2 weeks--counting the days.
I decided on a 408 from Reg. Apparantly this motor has a Ford lightning block. I also ordered it with the Vic jr heads ported and polished. Does anyone have this or a similar motor combo? If so any opinions or things to be careful of or cautious with? I told Reg I needed better than 500hp at the motor. I also switched to 3:73 gears.

Just the nut behind the wheel.;)

Get the 17" wheel option. The Nitto drag radials are awsome.

I spec'd 3.73's, did not get them due to... never mind.

#139 has 3.10's.

I launch in second gear without a stutter. I'm running a KeithCraft 351W.

I don't miss the 3.73's, IMHO in MY car, they would make first gear a cruel, unuseable joke. Kinda like Compound Low in my old '54 GMC pickup.

With the power train you ordered, you should be able to torque your way through almost any situation.

I dearly love my 17" Boyds and those sticky Nittos.

They don't make blue smoke, they just grab asphalt and GO!

Hey gang the car will be here some time around Friday afternoon. Reg and Frank are dropping it off on the way to the Gainsville track event which is on Saturday.
This is a huge deal I've wanted this car since early childhood.
When I was a kid I built lots of hot rod and muscle car models but could never find a cobra model. I first learned of the car reading a car and driver article while riding home from school on the bus. I remember it like it was yesterday. I remember reading that article and thinking man thats the car I need. I think that mag stayed on my nightstand for the next year. Anyways now it's arriving and I'm 35yr old so it looks like it took somewhere around 22 years.
What'll be nice is having my own car at reptile roundup and the other events now. I've gone to the RR three years now and watched.

It's car 211 with a 408. Ported and polished vic heads.Titanium and black with 17" wheels.
I spoke with Reg this afternoon and in the middle of our conversation interrupted him and said: Reg, will the car haul ass?
He responded "I think you'll be very pleased with it's performance."

Wow! Sounds very similar to what I'm going to do. I'm very anxious to hear your impressions and feedback. What a great day tomorrow is going to be!

Okay I've got 350 miles on the car so far. BD delivered the car last Friday. The car handles better than expected. There is a little shake in the wheel at 60 until about 67 then it goes away. At 80 it's nice and solid. At 120 it's nice and solid. I stopped at 120 because I want to get underneath the car and make sure everything is nice and tight after the first couple hundred miles break in. Then we'll see what it'll do flat out. In fifth gear with my motor you have to go 70 to 80 down the road or the rpms are a little low. Performance wise the car is sick.(In a good way). It pulls through every gear and keeps on pulling. Haven't come close to breaking the tires free in any gear. It just hooks up and goes. I usually run out of road without going over 5000rpm. I have pulled up to Z28's, old corvette, 2 new corvettes, and a couple rice burners no one will even entertain the idea of a little competition. Make sure you tighten the header bolts, intake bolts and water pump bolts. After the second day I lost 4 header bolts and one valve cover nut. Frank over nighted the stuff to me. If you got the cobra valve covers make sure your grommet that holds the pcv valve in is the right one. The hole on the valve cover has ears on opposite sides. My grommet was round and oil was seeping out. BD also sent me one of those. I was a little impatient and went to National Parts Depot locally and asked if they had that exact grommet and they did, it was 2 bucks now no seeping. It's called a notched valve cover grommet.
Be prepared for stares, questions and compliments. Yesterday while on I-75 a teenager was nearly causing an accident to try and pull up next to me. I saw him in my rear view mirror. When he pulled up next to me he stayed right with me for a few miles smiling and nodding his head.
I'm putting the car in two car shows this weekend, we'll see how she does.
Enjoy

You can almost see the big smile on your face in that last post.:D Sounds great and I can't wait to experience the same. I'm curious about the reference to needing to go 70-80 to keep the revs up in 5th. Did you get the 3.73s or go with the 3.10s?

MDP727 01-28-2005 12:11 PM

I stayed with the stock 3:10 gears. I figured I'd give it a try and switch later. I've heard too many complaints about the 3:73. I guess the 3:73's are great for the track but on the street 1st gear is useless. Maybe down the road I'll try a 3:42 or 3:55.
