fuel tank leak
 
I searched and found a thread on fuel tank leaks but I think my issue's a bit different. I get fuel leaking out where the fuel line is hose clamped onto the tank itself. The clamp seems tight. There's gas in it so I can't remove it yet and check for any cracks or pinholes or anything. Anyone see anything like this? I have an earlier car, #31.

Perhaps the clamp has cut or chewed the hose? You're gonna have to look at it closer. Easy to replace the rubber... not something you want to leave alone when fuel is involved.

It really seems like its coming out from between the plastic tank and the brass? fitting that's stuck in there. The hose is clamped onto the metal fitting. Might just drop the tank to look closer. What kind of tanks are they putting in the later cars? Still plastic? Anyone had a new tank made - aluminum maybe?

I experienced the same problem with the plastic fuel tank. There was a brass fitting that screwed into the plastic with epoxy sealing it. The epoxy cracked allowing fuel to slosh out when turning left. I removed the tank and made repairs but not to my satisfaction.

Eventually, I purchased the new stainless steel tank and installed it. The stainless tank eliminates the pickup bowl that extended below the chassis framework, has baffles to limit slosh, and just looks more professional. I highly recommend replacing the plastic tank.

Plastic tanks are before my time. New ones are stainless with a nice pickup bowl and baffles to prevent slosh.

Still don't know where you are located?

Exton, PA. Mike Mack at TriStates in Lancaster prepared my car. Thanks for the info. I'll contact Backdraft and see about a price for the new tank. I don't feel like messing with the plastic.

I have the stainless tank. Experiencing a fuel leak as well but coming from where the sending unit enters the tank at the top. Talked with frank need to drop the tank and replace the gasket. Only leaks when the tank is full.

I've had to re-do the outlet fitting and the vent fitting because of leaks. The vent fitting required lowering the tank slightly to provide clearance.

Been there, done that. Check the screws as well. On mine they used wood or pointed screws, the holes are tapped for threaded bolts. Screws were coming loose and thats what was causing the leak. Made a new gasket retapped the holes and used the proper bolts and all is fine now.

Mine was leaking thur the impedence unit in the middle of the fuel sending unit. Pressure checking spit fuel out the center of the unit. Replacing the whole unit solved the problem.

It may have been mine. Mike at TriState is installing it on 6/17. Oddly I haven't noticed any drops on my garage floor lately, but I'll go through with it anyhow.

You know how I could obtain an accurate list of what other things have been changed since the early cars? I have build # 31.

Yep, that was your tank. Sorry I don't have a list of the changes over the build numbers.
