Tony, there was a car at the Reptile Round-Up last November, dual roll bars with a windscreen, that had those colors. Not sure if you know the car I am talking about. I guess I'll need both codes and try to figure it out from there. Also, I see the car on your site. If you know whether those cars are the same that would be helpful.

Unfortunately, I don't have VIN #s. Thanks very much.

Jim

There are two sterling gray's? Tony I went off the picture in your gallery. I hope that is the sterling gray I am getting with my cobra. Do you know if there is a major difference between the two? If so what is the difference?

jeffko 05-25-2005 05:24 AM

Tony,

I would like to have my paint codes also. My car was #177 which is dark red with silver stripes. I can get the vin number later if you still need it.

Thanks,
Jeff

Thanks for the explination. That picture in the gallery has been the only thing keeping me alive! If it was a mix-up it would have turned into a bad dream...

jmimac351,

That was my car BDR #184 at the Reptile Roundup last November with the windscreen. I thought it was Sterling Grey until last week when I received the paint codes from Paul. It is Steel Grey BMW code 1043.

Hey thanks, Larry. Is your stripe code the same as what Tony has listed?

Do you know if the Steel Grey is lighter or darker than the Sterling Grey?

If you could send me a few pictures of your car that would be great. My car goes in for paint next month and I'm trying to find just the right silver. My head is spinning. **)

Very nice car, BTW. Classy.

Thanks,
Jim

I thought Steel Grey was used in early production. 184 does not sound early to me. I emailed Tony with my build # and never heard anything. I know the Sterling Grey touchup I got from BMW is way to light (BMW472). Is the Steel Grey darker?

Thanks

PS BMW dealership said all there paint codes are three digit and did not recognize the 1043. Determining the paint of your car should not be such a fiasco!!

I went to www.paintscratch.com and could not find "1043". It did look like all the BMW codes were 3 digit. Some were a mix of numbers and letter. That site is pretty handy. You can lookup codes by make, or the color name. And you can order touchup paint from them.

I went to a local Sikkens paint dealer and he knew the paint codes. Steel grey is Sikkens auto base plus BMW 1043 or Akzo code 9948, the silver stripe is Sikkens auto base plus Q811P which matches up with my vin and build data. Sterling grey is Sikkens auto base plus BMW 472. I don't think the 4 digit paint codes on these post match up with original BMW paint codes. Most BDR cars have been painted with Sikkens and are not compatible with actual BMW paint. I have used the formula for touch up and it matches.

1043 is the Lambo code for Titanium, I believe the Steel Gray is BMW 400.

I am trying to find a match for the Silver in the stripes now...

Cashburn

Thanks again!!! I picked up some BMW 400 and it is a 98% perfect match. Unless you know where you touched up you would never know the difference in color.

Thanks Again!!!!!

I have #1195 with this color combination built in 2013. Has the color (Sterling Grey with Silver stripes) and thus paint codes changed or is it the same over the years? Thanks in advance!
