Engine Choice For BDR
As you know I got the bug real bad. what engine would you recommend. Small block (302,331,347,351,392,408,or 427) or FE engine, the only one I can afford is a 390. The 427 and 428 are double the price.

Depends on where you are registering it, who you are buying it from, how you intend to drive it, who is building the engine, if you plan to resell it, and the list goes on....

Lighter weight, more compact, easier to service and install, can easily make over 500hp, much friendlier to the suspension, better economy, much more horsepower per dollars spent, parts availability, much more responsive throttle to typical driving, not nearly as fussy to tune and maintain, etc... If you can afford it, do an aluminum block and give yourself another 20hp in weight savings.
If the above does not interest you then do a big block. They sound very cool, has the wow factor, has the mystic of originality and not much else. I built a 393 that delivers 435/444 for approx $6200. You can see my first dyno sheet in the gallery. With a little tinkering it makes more than that now but is classified. :LOL: Do it yourself! It was fun and is very satisfying every time you start it. |

I have a 347 with tremec TKO in my car and it goes like a bat out of hell. I got my motor and tranny form the Engine factory and they were really helpfull. real easy install too.\ so far i have put over 2000 Hard miles on it and its given me not an ounce of cr@p. the plusses are that the block is new and all parts used in the motor are NEW, I have ot give credit to Chris Nelson at Eng Factory he and his guys/gals did a really great job and their service was prompt and near perfect. |
