Turkey Pan
Does anyone use a turkey pan with their air intake? Can you really notice a difference, or is it a waste of money and time:JEKYLHYDE? Thanx!!!!

The turkey pan will more likely hurt performance because of the restriction in size to the air cleaner you can use. But they sure do look nice! I just went through the whole turkey pan, S&H phase and went back to a large air cleaner. I can certainly feel and hear the difference.

If you want a turkey pan to increase performance - do NOT use a stock version. Use any of the air cleaner "calculators" to determine HP loss (to get the correct sized cleaner), then make your own "over sized" pan. But do not forget to add a baffle to the front of the air cleaner!!!!

Lizard Dude: Like Mr. Dorman, I too have gone through the wonderful looking, original S&H/turkey pan thing. Way too restrictive for my engine. Take a look at Superperformance's site secondstrike.com and use their air cleaner calculator to figure out just what you need. They mention a Ford oval air cleaner M-9600-R302, that will lose me only 3.2 horsepower at 6K RPM. It will fit my stock turkey pan, which will give me 5/8" clearance on the sides and over 1" on the ends. I do have concern is that 5/8" might not be enough clearance, as Warren implied. I plan on doing a chassis dyno pull to compare.
Also, Warren, you suggested the use of a baffle on the front of the air cleaner. Would you please elaborate? Thanks, Rich. :confused: |
