Backdraft weight
Just went to have the car weight today. 2400 with 5 gals of gas in tank .

#78 weighed in at 2450. With a 351 al heads and al bell housing and a T-5
Now I have a steel bell housing and a TKO 600 so I got to be 75 lbs heaver. |
So is 2400ish lbs considered a porker? I guess I always thought that a tipical cobra was in the 2100-2200 lb range. I have not had mine on a scale yet but hope to do that and a dyno soon. Do any of you know what an average SPF, or FFR tip at the scales with a 351 type engine?

Actually I've found 2600 to 2800 pounds more typical than most of us want to admit. The glass body is a HUGE factor in over all weight. Thicker, stronger, better just naturally weighs more. NOT that thinner, lighter, weaker isn't 'good enough'. I suspect the body is the main reason FFR's are lighter than most other replicas (and of course they typically run a small block).
It is VERY difficult to get close to 2000, under that is almost insane! Kirkhams recently commented that are now close to the under 2000 mark on their small block FIA type car, and hope to crack that barrier soon. 2275 is incredibly light, forgive me for being a bit skeptical on that number, but with an FFR I guess it's possible! By the way, gas weighs about 7 pounds a gallon. I would be tickled with a 2400 weight, thats gonna be hard to beat! |
The 2275 was at Moroso in Fla, who the heck knows when or if it was last calibrated. I've weighed my Powerstroked F250 and 30ft travel trailer at 3 different scales and got three different weights, all within 10 percent or so, but different. Just a nother slow Saturday afternoon...........
