Car has no dipstick 351w
I have backdraft #182 originally sold by Oglivy in Sarasota Florida. The car has a 351w engine. No dipstick was ever in the engine and nowhere to put one. WTF???? Does anyone have any idea how much oil this motor should have. I put 5 quarts in and it has oil pressure but that is not going to cut it.

What year 351. It should be on the passanger side lower front of the timing cover. There may be a little plug there to remove

Is there a hole for one on the timing chain cover, passengers side next to the balancer?

I wonder how they knew the oil level? Must be magic. If you are near the dealer take it back and demand they install one. No excuse for that.

Dipsticks!
My BDR, with a 351W, has the double sump oil pan pictured in the Ford Racing website, as shown on the 302. The plug is there on the timing chain cover, but the dipstick is located towards the rear on the left side, going into the side of the pan. There might be an interference problem with the alternator & brackets if you tried to use the front location. By the way, where mine is located, you only check oil after it cools down:eek:

The dumbsheets forgot to drill the timing cover when they installed the aftermarket oil pan. I doubt there is a plug, you will have to remove the timing cover and drill a hole or get a pan with a plug. You will have a very difficult time finding the "flat" on the timing cover if you do not know where it is. I went to a junk yard and finally found one. You could order a new timing cover with the plug, most will also have the fuel pump boss which you will have to use a cover plate.

click on my camera and you will see where the dipstick goes. I just saved you a couple hours of searching. I had to drill mine, the idiots at kc of plano were just that!!!!!!!!!!! |
My 392 crate came with the 2-sump pan and, as has been said, there is a inlet for the dip stick on the side of the pan. When I changed a larger pan, it did not have a dipstick port. My Ford guy said there was a knockout on the timing cover (as described above) and the Ford motorsport dipstick just presses in. Neat and easy...

My experience is if you have a fuel pump boss for a mechanical fuel pump then yes you will have the plug, if not it will be like mine. Eitherway if you look at my photo gallery you can see where the plug is supposed to be and if you do have it as stated pop it out and go down to autozone and buy a $9.99 dipstick with holder.
