BDR#380 First impresions!!
Hi guys! At last drove my BDR a little in a open area (I'm without driving license for three months, by means of Highway Patrol the day I was going to harbour to pick up my BDR...Unlucky man!!) I only drove it a little and my impression is here resumed.
- The whole car vibrates as if twelve Harleys were into engine bay - I only allow the car to get 4K rpm but acceleration is very progressive and at the same time you can feel piston strokes in steering wheel, it not seems a 345 bhp! Perhaps the car where a little bit cold and in my first contact I was too much conservative! The car looks awsome... the color comb is perfect (tianium, ghost stripes, black interior (thanks Jay...black interior is perfect!) How must I expect of M-6007-XB3M? ..... I had a 1969 302 Mustang and engine was smooth not so "Vibration machine"....... I like the feeling of the new Ford Racing and the sound but I dont know if all is OK...ignition, carb, etc! Here we are 1800 feet over seas level and temp is 73º Farenheit Cheers Alfonso |
You have an electric choke, but it sounds like it maybe staying on. Let it warm up a little and verify that is the case.
|
Thanks Jay...will do it!
|
Shoot me an email with what you find and a clearer description of the precise problem. Sending a car overseas with so many eyes and hands between us always makes me nervous.

Perhaps is not a problem, perhaps the car must to vibrate.....Harleys do! I only owned european modern cars and a 302 1969 Mustang...the car sounds great but the idle is not stable, I dont know if is only because the car is cold or even that this kind of engine runs in this manner (nobody touched the car, I opened the container seals). The car has only 6 miles on it. In first gear, running very slow, it makes some "push"..... obviously as you runned it before shipping you better than I can evaluate it...we must take into account that car has been alost two months stopped.... lamentably I cant drive it until final october.... Don't worry, its only a first impression, the car must run any mile to evaluate it, I will check all electric contacts (distributor, spark, ...) Ah! the carb butterfly (I saw with air filter dimounted) is totally open when the car is turned off! Thanks Jay... keep you posted....dont worry I will touch nothing without your instructions (only air filter to see carb)
Cheers Alfonso |
Alfonso,
Don't worry, things will work out fine. Jay will take good care of you, even though it is hard, since you are not exactly next door. When you are on the road with it, please post some pics and/or videos of you and the Cobra. Congratulations again! Stay away from the police with the Cobra!!! :D Cheers! Dave |
Dave! When we come back from harbour with the car uncovered onto the truck, highway patrol stoped us..they only want to see the car! I think it will be a Police claimer!! I promise not exceed 85 mph (limit in Spain for a radar shoot)...... My digital camera is being repaired...will post pics as soon as possible!
Cheers! Alfonso |
Alfonso,
Congratulations. 1) Make sure all spark plug wires are on the spark plugs all the way. 2) Make sure spark plug wire is not laying on hot header and burned it. 3) Take a look at carburator base and make sure all vacuum ports that are not used are plugged/covered with a cap. 4)Grap the distributor cap and see if you can rotate it, if you can STOP. Your timing is off. This is an extremely simple car, no computer, etc. I found all four wrong with mine when I first got it, I did not get it from Cashburn however. |
The only thing I have seen that max mentions around here are the Ford Racing Wires. Had on come off a spark plug for no reason at all, that would make it run rough. So check all the ignition wires are secure.

Check the spark plugs. I had a rough running engine, and found the insulator cracked on one of my plugs.

Uh, maybe your not used to a high lift/duration cam with very little back
pressure. John |
