Backdraft Roadster with a 460, here you go ...

While we at Vintage are waiting for a 427FE to drop in on a customer's car, Mr. Lucky and the boys over in South Africa have been at work with a number of exciting projects to extend Backdraft Racing further. One project was to conquer the age old misconception that the Backdraft only accepts small blocks. Well here are some photos, you can see more on our site at: http://www.vintage-motorsports.com/gallery/460BBF I will wait for Mr. Lucky himself to add some details on the build as well.

Nice install. Thanks for the pics.
John

Yes it has powersteering as well.

Nor Cal Al 09-12-2006 09:09 AM

Are they going to make those heat shields available? Looks line another cobra with the steering wheel installed on the "wrong" side!!! When will they learn?

jeffko 09-12-2006 11:47 AM

Nice pics Jay. I know Tony and the BDR Boys are working real hard and there is some exciting stuff coming our way.

Off the subject a bit...do you have part numbers for the upper and lower radiator hoses?

ROUSHAC 09-12-2006 02:01 PM

WOW, on the engine!!!

Another "short" guy like me has a Backdraft, huh? ;)

see built by Tony and his boys. Its my second cobra-1st BDR and all I can say
is this baby with a Ford 460 is something else, better than sex which I love.So to the chaps at BDR- I cannot thank enough

cheers
Tommy

madmaxx 09-14-2006 07:07 AM

Tommy,
If it is better than sex, you are with wrong women!!!! LOL

ROUSHAC 09-14-2006 10:02 AM

Tommy,

Welcome to Club Cobra!

I have to say that I agree with madmaxx. These cars ARE a blast, and they are the most fun you can have with your clothes ON, but certainly not with clothes OFF.

It looks like you may have now have taken possession of the "official" Backdraft height record at 6'5". I am listed at that height on my driver's license, but have been shrinking (heightwise anyway  ) through the years.

Enjoy the Cobra, and have many happy safe miles with her!

Cheers!
Dave

Cashburn 09-14-2006 11:12 AM

Hey Tommy,
I hear they had to move the seat up a little for you ;)

I Have BDR #266 and I am 6'5" tall. I fit great in the car, but I do have some modifcations to the car. Seat mounted to the floor, 1.5" wider seat and the seat penetrating the rear wall by 1 inch.

BDR w/460 COOOOOOOOOOOOL

I knew it would fit....A buddy of mine just installed a 460 crate motor in his 68 Mustang....I pulled old BDR261 next to it ...looked like the 460 should sit where my 392 is. I know it is awsome in the Backdraft!!! I really like that there is always something new @ Backdraft Racing!
Snakester
I am only 5'7" , maybe there is enough room for that 514?

tony martin 09-15-2006 11:27 PM

Way to go Tony, you guys build a great product and when you get that beast finished post some pictures on the site for us. I wish we could see you again at Run and Gun with your awsome ride. You taught us a thing or two last time you were there. I hope some of your faithful owners show up to compete (play with us).

Ken,

Sorry about that. I had forgotten that Jay and Brian at Vintage told me about another guy my size to whom they had sold a Backdraft.

I think that you are longer in the legs than I am (I'm "only" a 34" inseam), so I only went to the wider seats, and got away with them mounted on the tracks. Nice to know that we big guys can drive a Cobra that doesn't make us feel like we are in a sardine can.

I hope to meet you sometime, and maybe we can compare our car's solutions to the fit question.

Many happy safe miles to you and yours in your Cobra.

Cheers!
Dave

Tommy Osborne 09-27-2006 09:47 PM

Hey Lol- When You See My Woman You Will Realise How Great My Bdr Is Because She Is An A.t.g. Which Means -all Time Great.

Tommy Osborne 09-27-2006 09:54 PM

Hello Jay-can You Believe It-tony Insisted On Cutting A Section Out To Move The Seat Further Back ,and Then I Could Hardly Reach The Pedals-anyway All Sorted -cheers Tommy

Cashburn 09-27-2006 10:09 PM

Tommy,
Sounds like they did the "cobrak" mod on your car. It does make for some increased space. I cannot even drive Ken's car when it is in the shop since the seat is hard mounted to the floor. Sort of an anti-theft device ... like those really tall ape hangers on a chopper.
