Trans removal

Hey Guys,

I'm pulling the trans out of my BDR. I do not want to pull the engine. Will the trans drop throught the bottom of the car with the engine installed.

I remember Brian from Vintage Motorsports telling me when we were going over my car, that BDR made a modification to the frame for this exact reason.

So if you have a BDR with the frame rail reinforcement beam that bolts in under the trans, then yes, if you have one that has the reinforcement beam welded in under the trans, then I don't think you can, or maybe with a LOT of effort you can.

If you need an example go to Vintage Motorsports web site and look through the build pic's, they have plenty of shots taken from under the car.

hi Dennis
I have #84 and yes you can drop the trans from the bottom and I have the welded cross arm, its a trick but its not to hard
First unbolt driveshaft then loosen rear-end bolts the 4 on the bottom and drop rear end down about 1 to 2" not enough to let it drop. I believe I used a17mm crowfoot to hold top of long bolts.
move drive shaft back tell out of trans this is what you drop rear-end so the drive shaft can come back just over the top of rear-end its a trick but keep trying. Now unbolt side pipes from side of car and then unbolt trans cross member with jack under trans lower, move driveshaft forward over trans and out between cross members there about 8" apart but it will go.
the side pipe were unbolt from side of car so the engine and trans can pivot on mounts, lower just enough to clear welded cross arm un bolt trans from bell housing.
I hope this helps if you have more questions just ask. ED my cell #321-276-4167
