rearend Durability

Has anyone had any problems with rearends handling all the power these cars have. The BMW that these went in had around 187 if I remember correctly. My roush 402 dynoed at 531hp and when I really get on it the thing halls ass. Are these things completely stock or does BDR beef them up before install. My car is a newer model if that makes any difference.#419 Thanks

There are many factors that come into play here. However one of the most critical is that the weight of your Backdraft vs. the weight of the BMW the rear was originally intended for. This and the fact that the unit was over-engineered significantly. You can spend a little time on a Bimmer forum and learn how tough these things really are.

You will break a variety of other parts on your car before you will actually break that differential. They have been putting bigger and stronger engines in front of these for years and no actual breakage of the differential has been reported or evidenced.

I might add my 2 cents worth here, I have a SBF stroker 347 with 510 HP mated to a T5 and I drive the bejeezus out of my car, MY diff which is the M3LSD has had no problems whatsoever.

I thought the same but after 9k miles and several hundred miles at the track, a long with just driving the crap out of the car no problems with the rear. I did break the u joint at the drive shaft the 3rd day I had it. It was the weak link. No other problems with the drive line. 402WHP out of a 427W

Try hard enough and you can break anything. Ford 9" is about the toughest rear end going, but I was able to 'break one' in my Excalibur with a lowly stock 302 and 5 speed.

How? Drifting... :D
