Need help with fuel problem?

Hello all,
I was on my 1st run for the season and the car ran great for ten mins with no problems. When slowing down to make a turn the car shut off. I opened hood to see fuel dripping from pass side of carb where vac secondary switch is. After a couple tries on starting I gased it heavy and she started. As soon as you let off it starts to bog down and stall. Got hit home and removed air cleaner and saw no problems. Gased it hard for restart and runs fine until you let it go back to idle. Looking at carb there is a small stream dripping from secondary filling carb up. Even with car off the gas keeps going for awhile.
Is this a problem with a float? Remove back bowl? I don't know alot about carbs. Please help.%/

Dirt in the needle/seat area of the secondaries. Remove, clean and readjust for proper float level.

Remove bowl?

Warren,
Do I have to remove back bowl or is there another way. Also float level adjust? Remove side screw for proper fuel level? Raise level in bowl till fuel dribbles out?
Sorry. Never done this before.

You do not have to remove bowl. You can loosen the big brass screw on the top of the bowl. Then turn the nut to remove the needle assembly.

Clean the needle/seat with some brake clean. Remove the sight plug and let the excess gas drain out into cup. Reinstall needle seat, making sure the gasket is OK. Look in the sight glass hole and adjust the nut so the parting line of the float is midway in the sight glass hole. Reinstall plug. Tighen big screw on top.

Start car and let it run for 30 seconds. Turn engine off. Remove sight glass plug and adjust nut slowly, 1/4 turn at a time. If gas is flowing out of hole, let it drain out. Reinstall plug and restart.

Recheck level and adjust. Remember that the gas level in the secondary bowl will NOT drop by itself when you adjust the float level down wards. Therefore, you must let the excessive gas flow out of the sight hole.

Tom,
Got your voicemail (it is very busy here today). Looks like our Boston friend gave you all the info you need. Brian mentioned a little while ago to "call Tom and tell him dirt in the needle valve..." :)

After you fix this, may I suggest a fuel filter at the carb.

Flooding or excessive rich is indicated by large clouds of black smoke.

All better

I took needle out and cleaned. Returned to correct setting. No problems.
I had to end ride due to excessive speed while testing. Too much fun for today. I will look for a filter if none I will install one.
thanks
tom
