Everyone check rear diff
Was under my car today cleaning up brake fluid after my slave cylinder gave out.When I was cleaning around the rear diff I noticed the star bolts holding the half shafts to the diff were loose.Four on each side were finger loose and was alittle bit of grease slung up under the car. Luckily I'm still breaking in the car and haven't gotten on it yet. Luckily no noise or problem as a result,at least that I can tell.Make sure every checks these out and I'm going to lock-tite the hell out of these babies.By the way, there are 6 on each side.

half shafts
I already had to replace both half shafts and one side took out wheel bearing. I was lucky nothing else happened and Vintage looked over the car while installing the new lsd. This is normal maintenance on these type cars for things to rattle loose. I wish I had a lift so I could inspect more offen. If you see grease on inside of rear wheels you may have a problem.

Cobras are like Harleys in the maintenance respect. Things are going to come loose and fall off.:)
Every 3 to 6 months I put the car up on my lift and inspect everything underneath. |

I don't know that I would locktite those star bolts since those heads could be tricky and easily strippable. I would check them every 6 months or so instead.

My slave cylinder recently went out as well! Must be a Hawaii thing...
I better check out the rest of the nuts and bolts. :D |

If you have grease at the rear wheel you probably have a small hole in the rubber boot.Large hole if lots of grease. Could have been cut when assembled or road debre hit it. If you can find the hole,clean the boot really good and use a product called "Right Stuff" on the hole.Its a super strong rubber cement type product for gasket repair.Eventually you should put on a new boot though. I had some grease at the center diff. but once I tightened the 6 torx bolts on each side it took care of the problem. How do I get my information on car and engine etc in the upper right of my posts. I'm a computer illiterate.

Go to the top of this page and click on "Quick Links" then select "Edit Profile". When the "Edit Profile" page comes up scroll down to "State", "Cobra Make, Engine", "City" and fill in your info. Socket size?
Would someone please tell me what size / type socket is used on the axle bolts at the differential? Mine are covered with a thick coat of paint & I'd like to get the right socket & check the torque. Thanks.

Its an E-12 TORX socket. Make sure you tap it on with a hammer and get a good solid fit. I found that you have to spin the axle around a little bit to get a good position. On the drivers side about 3:00 position worked for me.
