Graham,
Hey that's me I've got the only Superformance in NZ, although there is a Superformance Daytona on the way to another JAFA. Same dealer out of Melbourne Australia (CTC...GREAT PEOPLE). I think I know how you must feel waiting for her to arrive. Regards Bruce A |
jafa ... now there's a term I haven't heard in a number of years ;)
|
Dave,
Just because Bruce has a Cobra, I think he should be accorded the status of honorary south islander ( mainlander ). That should at least take away the stigma of being a jafa. Bruce, that car of yours is truly a sight to behold, and seeing it on the cover of the nz clssic car magazine ( and the pics and write up ) is what finally convinced me to take the plunge, stop looking and finally do something about fulfilling a long term dream. I also whilst evaluating which of the final two makes to go with SPF or BDR went to melbourne and caught up with the CTC guys. Obviously very passionate about what they do and very very accomodating at the same time. I now have only 29 sleeps ( whose counting ) to go until I fly out to Durban SA to meet the new addition to the family. Bruce, if you are ever in Nelson with your car let me know. I should have mine on the wharf in Nelson about the end of july. Cheers Guys Graham |
Graham Vercoe,
Gary here in CT USA, I am also a proud owner of the BDR Cobra. I purchased mine in 10/06 and already have over 3000 miles on her. You will have a lot of fun and the looks form kids to adults to senior citizens are impressive. Congrates, you'll be very pleased. GAry |
Thanks Gary,
I Think just like Bruce ( NHVANA ) one of the really neat parts is not only being satisfied that you have bought the right car .. for you .. but also being part of a fairly exclusive group of people in your home country who actually own one of these masterpieces. The best part of the process so far is the absolute commitment I have received from Tony and his team at the factory in SA. I can't wait to get over there. I just received some more photos from Tony yesterday and she ( the car ) has just had her body gloss coated for the first time, and man what a sight. I will try to get some photos loaded up soon but i'm having a bit of trouble following the last lot of advice on how to, that I got. If anyone else can help with that I'd be most grateful. Graham |
HI I'm expecting my BDR to arrive in NZ at the end of July, running a Roush 351 and T5. There are a lot of Cobra's in NZ, they are also made here by Graham Berry Racing. My BDR will be coming into Wellington out of Miami FL.
|
Graham Berry did the chassis' for the Almac Cobras over there. That is one of the oldest Cobra replicas on the market I believe. I'm trying to remember who the other Cobra Kiwi is around your neck of the woods, Muz maybe? That thing will be a hoot along the wild west coast, beware the washouts though!

Hey Monaro,
Good to see another damn fine bdr hit the road in godzone. Let me know how you are getting on, if the car has arrived and how you are going with cert etc. I will be in Welliwood at the end of Oct as an entrant in this years Dunlop Targa Rally which starts in Akl on Mon 26th Oct and finishes in Well the following Saturday. Post some pictures if you have some. Now I have some photos ready so if one of the fine gentlemen from the USof A will humor me with a how to I would be very appreciative. As they say better late than never. Doug, I did the Nelson to Christchurch return run through the Lewis Pass in late Feb, and boy what a drive. I think I was still smiling inwardly about a month later. I must say the thrill never wears off. Anyway I have been making good use and have now about 6000 k's on the clock and hope to add many more this summer. Not that I don't drive it over winter, but just pick the warmest of the cold days. Over and out. |
Vercoe5,
I lived in Christchurch in the early 90, and since owning a BDR have dreamed of driving it there...Lewis Pass...But as for the T-5 it will be just fine. My car is strictly a track car so the tranny gets a lot of abuse but in a 2400lb car its not going to be a problem. I forgot to say that I have a 347 so its almost the same as what you are getting... One option that I would suggest is the LSD...Have fun Mac |

Glad to hear the car's on the road and you're racking up the miles. Feb would have been about the perfect time - summer heat over and not a huge chance of rain.
To post pics ... 1. create an account at photobucket or a similar service. I use photobucket and it works pretty well. 2. upload the photos you want to post here. I'll use photobucket as the example. 2a. login and click 'my albums' 2b. then where it says 'upload images and video' click on 'choose files' 2c. find the first files you want upload and hit 'open' and let photobucket do its thing 2d. after they have uploaded hit 'save and continue' 2e. now you should see the images you have uploaded with Email & IM and code etc etc 2f. where it says IMG Code point to it and left click. It copies the code you need. 3. In you reply to the thread here hit ctrl-v (or right click then paste). It pastes all the code to post the photo here. Like this .. here is the code {IMG]http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c371/Doug_I/1bravething.jpg[/IMG} (the bold bits I changed to get the code to show) and here is the photo http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...bravething.jpg |

The pictures are making me homesick! No wonder they make so many movies in Godzone.

Hey Doug,
A big thanks for the post. One day I'll learn how to properly use my computer. Mickmate, yeah NZ is a great place to live. The one huge drawback though is the serious lack of Cobras and organised events - car related. I look at some of the organised runs ,shows and general happenings I see on this forum and would sometimes quite happily pack my bags and emigrate to be able to spend lesuire time with like minded ( cobra ) people. In fact my next trip to the States will be based around one of the big car events on the west cost. Just have to convince my financial director ( wife ) that it is a legitimate business trip. |
I just got back from SAAC 33 so I'll keep my homesickness in check for a bit.
Cheers mate. |
Hi, the cars in Tauranga, I'm picking it up Thursday. It's been shipped by FPS and thats been a real headache, I'll never use them again. Yeah, it would be good to meet in October, give me a call, my mobile is 027 407 6451. The guys at Backdraft have been great with lots of usefull information. I'll let you know how I get on with the cert, how did you get on? Richard.

Nelson - Christchurch - Akaroa
Hello Graham, weldone on your purchase, please make sure when you do the Lewis Pass you leave enough fuel in the tank to do Christchurch to Akaroa, as this is one of the best drives in world for a Cobra.
So please call in and I will lead the way in the FIA. |
Hi Monaro,
Man are you gonna have the biggest smile on your face for some time to come, or should that be until you meet the certifier. haha. Mine got cert ok just a few really painfull and what I deemed really unnecessary thing, mostly minor, but a lot will depend on the certifier you choose/use. I am not sure whether yours is pre owned or not as this may make a bit of a difference if it is. Must say I still can't say enough about the fantastic experience I had with the Backdraft guys in South Africa. Good luck with the cert, I'll give you a call and give you a heads up on the sorts of things I had done to comply. |
No worries Graham. That is a nice ride you have there !!
NZCSX2323 Have you contacted the MG Car Cub? They have a lot of organised day trips in and around ChCh as well as a few track days out at Ruapuna. They don't mind what you drive and I'm sure they'd love to have you come along. I've done a few of their events in my Civic. If you do, find my folks (red 69 MGB-GT) and say hello :) Another good day trip would be a run up to Hanmer. :) |
