Richmond Trannys
MORNING GUYS,
HAS ANYONE FITTED A RICHMOND TRANNY? 4,5 OR 6SPEED. LOOKING FOR A TRANNY FOR ATRACK DAY CAR.:p ANY COMENTS AND ASSISTANCE WELCOMED.:D |
I had a Richmond 5 sp in my Contemporary - I will not be so inclined to ever have another one, especially for a track car.
|
WHY??? What problems did you have with the Richmond 5 speed? Was it a street 5 speed or a track 5 speed?
|
I have a Richmond 5-speed (street) transmission in my EM Cobra. I've run it a lot on the street and the track. I don't like the way the transmission shifts. Speed shifts are out of the question and it took me far longer than it should have to get comfortable finding gears. It is also more difficult than it should be to skip a gear (e.g., 2nd to 4th) in street driving. I've read a lot of negative comments about Richmond transmissions and very few compliments.

Interesting.
I have a synchronized Doug Nash (Richmond five speed) with a modified Hurst Competition Plus shifter on it, and while the throws are a little long due to the length of the shifter arm, it shifts very well. I have had no problems at all with it in 9K miles including a lot of autocross driving early on. Other Cobra owners I have had in the car have commented on how fast and easy it shifts compared to their own cars (mostly top loaders). Speed shifting that car while autocrossing was easy enough and made for great times until the Jag axle gave it all up. I go a little easier on it now. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...g_axle_006.jpg I am thinking the shift linkage might have as much to do with these experiences as anything. |
