sticking throttle cable on a BDR car
A couple of times in the past few days the throttle sticks. Tap the gas pedal once or twice it OK. Any other BDR guys had this problem?

What cable, spring kit, carb bracket, are you running? Also how is your cable routed? Is it catching on the carpet or simply the cable and/or springs binding? Also check the pivot rod of the pedal assembly to verify it is not too tight and binding there.

My throttle was sticking on the carpet when I fully got into the pedal (Not a good time for it to stick :eek: ) Simple fix-just moved the pedal over a tiny bit and hasn't stuck since. Good luck -Sean |
Check and see if it is a frayed cable at either end that is hanging up.
If you are using the Lokar cable with the braided stainless steel housing, this sometimes happens. If so, change over to the black plastic housing. |
I found the inner cables used on Honda Rotary lawn mowers for actuation of the blade or wheels are teflon or plastic lined and slide effortlesly. They can be easily adapted to throttle cables.

i'm embarrassed to admit but my floor mat was causing my problem :JEKYLHYDE ..the mat was getting "bunched up" and causing the pedal to catch...that simple...make sure your mats are flat...

Try attaching some pieces of the "hooked" side of the wide Velcro that you can find in hardware stores to the bottom of the mats. That holds the mats well to the carpet, but allows them to be easily removed for cleaning. Don't feel bad. I saw a video the other day about a guy who had a thermos bottle roll between the firewall and the brake pedal. That made stopping rather interesting to say the least. Good thing he had a handbrake |

Shouldn't the outer spring be bigger than the inner spring which should eliminate any entwining? |
Throttle Springs Entertwining
I have concentric springs (one larger diameter spring on the outside with a smaller diameter spring on the inside). The springs would occasionally entertwine--in other words, when the springs were elongated the inner spring would become entangled in the outer spring and when compressed, the springs would not retract fully to their neutral position. So, I inserted a copper pipe between the springs. The smaller daimeter spring was inside the 4-inch long pipe and the bigger spring was outside the copper pipe. WALA--no more problem!

When I first got my car I had this problem. It was the bolt that holds the pedal to the firewall. No shoulder on bolt just threads. I made my own shoulder bolt to fit and it works great now. Also had to adjust cable bracket to pedal. There was a kink in the cable that I thought was ok but it broke later on. Thanks to Jay he helped me to get home and I now carry a extra cable just in case.%/

It's not stuck there is only suppose to be two positions: open and closed :)
