How do you calculate 5th gear ratio?
How would I calculate my 5th gear ratio? I have a T-5 that I bought new when I finished my BDR, which still has a stock 3.14 ring and pinion. I requested that a different 5th gear be installed ( I was charged for it) but I have my doughts. When I open track my car at VIR the back straight Has a hill the I hit at about 5000 RPM in fourth. If i shift into 5th I lose speed and cannot gain RPM (not enough torque, 347 ci sbf). I am undesided if I should go with an LSD and a mid 3.5 gear or just install a gear in the open diff. I agree I just hold it in fourth at 5800 until the braking zone, I haven't hurt it yet but it can't be good for it...Mac
