17" tires

New 17" tires for #188
I tried new tires. They ride great, look great and have lots of meat.
What a differance from BFG tires. My front tires are for sale. cheap.;)
I'm ordering another set for spares. On sale!!!!!!!!!!!
Check out http://www.tirerack.com. Sumitomo HTRZ 315/35/17 ZR (Not drag radials) 245/45/17 for front. I bought 245/40/17 because 45's are on backorder.

I'm no purist. 17's RULE.

...But I still hate the 21st Century.

What tires did you have before? Any issues with original tires and front end shimmy? Is so, did the new tires fix it?

rocket7171 07-16-2007 10:29 AM

New sneakers

With new sneakers almost all the shimmy is gone. I had car adjusted to Tony at Backdraft specs. Much better but still had a good shimmy. Tires rebalanced three times with no luck getting good balance. :( Found out that one of the rims on the front is bent. This is the only shimmy I now have since new tires were installed. My cobra is now a car again. :D The original tires were BFG front and BFG drag radials on rear. Rear tires were too low on tread for me. I looked around and tried to find tires for the rear that have normal tread.

Wow!! Those tires are cheap. I may need a set. My rears are pretty worn and I want to get rid of the shimmy in the front. I can't imagine the rears hook up as well as the DR's.

Any traction issues?

I had the Sumitomo HTRZs on a couple of my cars. I raced with them at Run-n-Gun 2005 and they held up pretty well for street tires. Honestly, for those of you looking for street tires, they are really the best bang for the buck! Where else can you get a 315 for around $100.00???

Keep those tires forever then.

Rocket,

How about a picture of those new tires on the car? I'd like to see the effect of the smaller tire on the front. According to the specs the are about 1" smaller in diameter then the 45 series.

Thank in advance.

When I converted my coupe from track to street use. I took off the Hoosier road race radials and put on a set of Sumitomos 275X17 (front) and 315X17(rear). It drove much better on the street, not as darty. Like stated before, you can't beat the Sumitomos on price.
