Best product for keeping aluminum panels shining?

looking for product recommendations to keep all my panels in the engine compartment shining...

I use mother's aluminum wheel cleaner on all of my aluminum parts and it works very well. I also have the Mother's powerball. It is overrated and overpriced but it does help cut down on the elbow grease!

Slick61,

I believe the panels are stainless steel in a BDR. All I have used (the VERY few times that I have cleaned them - going for the "barn find" look myself http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f8...laughing-1.gif) is some Windex.

Remove panels ... have them polished by a professional and then have them clear anodized.

Or the cheaper variation, a lot of elbow grease with a good aluminum polishing compound.

They are stainless steel.

If they are SS, just make sure you DO NOT use paper towels or dirty rags to clean them. Dry paper towel will add small scratches. I use some metal polish on a slightly moist micro-fiber towel to clean my engine panels ... after cleaning them with a wet micro-fiber towel.

Thankfully I only do it once a year. Then during the year I use a Swifter duster to clean the engine compartment.

I've probably got a mixture then... besides the regular SS panels in the engine compartment, I also have some dress-up panels & heat shields which I suspect are aluminum...

what to use for the stainless steel?

I use Autosol on just about anything shiny (chrome, aluminum, SS) except the paint.

It ain't cheap, but a little goes a looooooong way ... and it does a good job. Its made in Germany.

Look on line for a product called Flitz, I run a large motor yacht and thats all we use on bare aluminum it does a great job.

PS: sometimes you can find it at Home Depot in the plumbing dep.
