Anyone install a Brake Vacuum Reservoir?
Has anyone mounted a brake vacuum reservoir in their BDR? When I slam on the brakes really hard, my engine wants to die which causes my brakes to fail.
I have been playing with the rear floats on the carb in case I am getting fuel slosh. So far I have had no luck. I am going to try the little Holley carb “splash shield” but have not installed it yet. I tried the old trick of routing a hose from front to rear bowl carb vents and put a breather in the top of the hose. Trying this method filled my engine with fuel to the point of hydrolic lock in about 10 seconds. (Not fun).:CRY:
The next thing I want to try is installing a vacuum reservoir. Looking for suggestions on engine compartment location and type of reservoir you may have used.

Mine's got one located on the right side of the engine compartment, between the front wheel and passenger footwell box, above the headers. I'm at work right now, can't remember the name on the bottle.

Check out www.summitracing.com or www.jegs.com. They have reservoirs from $30-60 depending on looks. We have started to add belt driven vacuum pumps to our engines because we could not get a large enough reservoir. |

What sort of belt driven vacuum pump are you using?

I run one of the Summit units on my SPF. It maintains around 20-25in of vacuum and gives me that extra layer of protection. Removed the windshield washer bottle/reservoir on the driver's side fenderwell (never use it) and mounted it there. Easy stuff...

We use a Cardone #64-1009 pump. If you are using V-belts, it will take a Ford #E9TZ-2L487-A pulley. I have a picture of a serpentine install in my gallery.

Do you have a brake boster vacuum leak? Had that problem with mine.

What pulley did you use with the serpentine belt?
Did you fabricate a mount or use one from another application? |

We use the power steering pulley that comes with the Tru Trac setup for the serpentine. I am sure that a call made to Billet, March, Zoops, etc would find you one. The mounts will have to be made.

I never checked for a vacuum leak. I will check that tomorrow. I was checking out cannisters on Summit web site and will try that also. Will keep you all posted!

Get a one way check valve from NAPA cost about $3.00. It uses the vacuum diaphragm as a storage medium. Will get you stopped if the engine dies.
