BDR fuel filler neck - WARNING

FYI-

I was working on my BDR last week and noticed that not one of the 5mm screws (there are about 6-7) securing the fuel filler ring to the body had a nut or washer.

I reached through the rear wheel well (with the wheel off) and was able to pop each one out with my finger. They are the countersunk screws you can see around the fuel filler cap.

I'm sure I am an unique case, but it can't hurt to check. I sincerely doubt all vibrated loose by themselves.

Better safe than sorry.

thank you for the tip(observation)...most likely that is the same case with other b/d's...
things like this are helpful on this forum...no debate needed!

Mine were loose and it's a new car...

I have had issues with some of the hardware on #499 as well. It seems that Backdraft uses common flat nuts and star washers on many of the non-load bearing aplications throughout the car.

I went to the local Fasten-All dealer and bought a bag of Ny-lock nuts (100ea) for $4.00 and begun replacing most of the flat nuts. I don't know why Backdraft uses flat nuts abd star washers on cars that vibrate as much as these do...

It is always good practice to use nylon lock nuts and lock washers. We have recently overhauled out parts bin and now have really nice hardware that shouldn't come loose. I also using a crimp nut on the headers/sidepipe flange. This is really nice that we haven't had any come loose as of yet.
