Motor mount problems?
I keep getting this annoying vibration in my car that doesn't seem to be traceable. (most of the driveline has been checked for loose fasteners, u-joints, etc.) It has been suggested that perhaps it is a collapsing motor mount. I am not sure what kind of motor mounts are on a Backdraft. Could they collapse? Are they solid? Did Backdraft supply them or are they from my local (since out of business) dealer?
I would appreciate any insight into this, or the darn vibration. Thanks SkipB |
It could a bellhousing alignment problem. What type are you using?

The motor mounts are supplied by Backdraft. You'll need to jack up one side of the motor and remove the motor mount. Double check to see if the rubber bushing has come loose. If not, then check the other side. If you do one side at a time, then you can easily do it with a jack and a board to spread the load.

Check your Harmonic balancer. Mine just failed, after having an untraceable vibration for a while.

I had a similar issue and it turned out that the clutch slave was just close enough to contact the body when the motor torqued. It was hard to track down because when I looked under the car it was clear....Good luck Mac

Does it happen more in 5th than 4th gear when on the hwy. I have also suspected that the vibration I get is the motor mounts. John |
Harmonic/engine vibration
Just finished wrestling with that problem. Call to Frank suggested I install 2 washers under the trans. mount. When we got the car on the lift, sure enough the drive shaft was out of line, not only vertically but even worse ,hoizontally. Installed the washers as suggested, then pulled the rear trans. mount and re-aligned it ( it was out 3/8th of an inch) by re-drilling the mount holes. This has put added stress on the engine mounts which I have not addressed yet. What aggrevates me about this problem and a dozen other issues I've had with this car is not the fact that they are more than willing to advise you on correcting it, but that it was so poorly put togeather in the first place, and as owners we are expected to find and correct the gremlins.
