BMW VSS pulses per mile

I'm trying to hook up cruise control in my BDR. Anyone knonw the approximate pulses per mile from the factory VSS?

Thanks a pile.

That will depend on the number of teeth on the drive and driven gears. Could vary greatly.

BMW VSS is 7100.

Actually, it depends on the rear end gear and the size of tires. If you have 17" wheels and tires, and the rear gear is the newer standard 3:46, then it will be 7960.

If you have taller tires, then the number would go down. I tested this with another car driving side by side at different speeds, and lately I have used the GPS to test it as well.

Bests, James

Thanks.
With some tweaking, I got it to work off of the tach sigal only. The Audivox tech guys are not very helpful.

I will do a write up on the install for future reference. Some of the dip switch settings in the instructions are not correct for the V8 engines in a Cobra.

If your speedo is correct you can follow the directions to calibrate it and see what the VSS is currenty set for.
