CA Bay Area: Anybody got a trailer?
Barring any further economic disasters, I'll be looking to trailer my 289 FIA up to Ken's in Yuba City for paint. Plan is to trailer up in February and let Ken do his magic on my FIA (bad-ass black, show quality, I cannot wait!).
Anyone willing to lend me a trailer that I can pull behind my Tahoe? :3DSMILE: DD |
We do - not a problem Doug.
Send me a PM. |
It's great going up to Kens; so many beautiful car bodies to look at. I'd go with you just to see. :D
|
Steve - Thanks! PM sent. Like to stop by and check out your shop sometime.
289FIA_Cobra: Ken did your car, right? I think I saw your testimonial on their web site. DD |
Doug,
I have seen Herman's FFR many times and the paint job (along with the rest of the car) is beautiful. Your car looks good now with just the gel coat black ... it will look awesome with shiny smooth deep black paint job. Any guesstimate as to how long it will take to paint your car? - Tim |
Good to hear you are undergoing paint! Can't wait to see it in full dress!
|
Tim: I think it's about 6 weeks. I'll go into Cobra-withdrawl...
Hyde: It's been a long haul, but I'm loving every minute of my Cobra experience. Drove the coast route from Pescadero to Santa Cruz as the sun dipped down toward the horizon, pipes rapping away, wind blowing in my face, all the while thinking, "This is what it's all about." DD |
Doug, my neighbor with an FFR, is very happy with his paint job from Ken, and his prices are reasonable too. My neighbor is the smart engineering-type fellow, so he says that there are a coupel small flaws, but to my discriminating eye, it looks fantastic.

For those of us who go the Hands on Route in order to afford the very best that we can it becomes quite a thrill to take her down the road. Especially remembering the months of Hands On Labor & saving penny's for parts it took to get there. I'm glad to see you made it! The paint will do so much for the car. I remember that process. I think you're a smart man to let someone else do it. I'm glad I did it myself but it's a dirty mess of a job.

Hyde: You're a braver man than I. Me no can do paint.

Always thought a black primer 289 Cobra would be sexy. -- but then a BRG one is even cooler --- or guardsman Blue or Pepper-pot metallic ...or....or...
Doug dont worry I cant paint either. |
With glossy antique white meatballs & stripes. That would be Sexy!
|
Update: Cash in hand, I'm ready to start taking apart my Cobra for paint. I stopped by a Harley-Davidson dealership to check out their black, and my-oh-my, they have a tasty, vivid, deep gloss black. Unfortunately, it's a laquer that cannot be legally sprayed in CA. No worries, though, I looked at Ken's gallery (www.streetrodpainter.com) and saw a beautiful FFR GTM with a gloss black paint job. That's the ticket!
Panavia: Can I take you up on the offer to borrow a trailer for a Feb 12 haul? I'd pull it with my Tahoe. Pick it up Th afternoon, return Saturday am? Willing to bribe with a bottle of Stag's Leap Cab or Patrone Silver... DD |
Panavia's trailer looks like it won't be available for mechanical issues.
Anyone willing to lend a flatbed car hauler? Willing to bribe with beer, wine, tequila, hookers... :D (Note that the quality/desirability of a $50 bottle of wine exceeds the quality/desirability of a $50 hooker... ) |
Doug,
If you can't find one to borrow, try U-Haul or some other local rental outfit. A couple of years ago, my son bought a Sunbeam Alpine that was located near Santa Rosa. I rented a flatbed trailer and we hauled it back home. Be sure to bring proof of car insurance, or they won't rent it to you. As I recall, the rental was less than $100 ... about 2 bottles of wine or 2 ... oh never mind ! |

Good to see someone gets my sense of humor---I'm sure my wife wouldn't. Got to see a Black Cobra today at Mustang Ranch. Yeah, black. That's the ticket. DD |
Sorry about the late notice, but yes our trailer is down.
It is in Grass Valley with an axle issue. our other flatbed trailer is local streets only. :( Doug forgot to mention the Green, Blue and Silver Cobras he saw as well. Sorry about missing our cheeseburger, but today was hell. |
Doug,
I do have a trailer I just need to pick the ramps up from a friends shop. You can come by the shop in Mountain View to check it out and make sure it will work for you (I have never towed a Cobra on it). Andrei |
Andrei: Thanks for responding. Sent you a pm.
