Uhhh, I'm here to say you don't need to do any of those things except observe proper tire pressure.:MECOOL:
|
How about telling us when your company is going to rent the runway the next time so we can test our cars and pucker factor???? :D We can go out for chicken lunch after.
|
The run way cost $2000 a day to rent, I am thrill & very happy with 145MPH on my car.
I don't really need to reach 150MPG, but I just wonder why an additional 5 more miles is very hard to reach, at least now I know other factors make a big challenge for me. Thanks |
Gearing
Remember a lot of it is gearing, too. With my 3.54 rear, 295/50/15 tires and that wonderful .64OD gear, I hit 150 at 4300RPM.;) With my solid, flat tappet cam I don't red line to a good 7000RPM, which of course, translates to over 240MPh. I think she might do an honest 165, maybe a hair more, but maybe not.
|
With the .64 5th I've been to 135 and it was just getting spooled up. I have no doubt I could break 150.

$2000 per day to rent a runway?
I'll we'd need is about twenty Cobras to make it cost efficient. I'm game. I'd even help organize it. Anybody else game? I wonder if we could get some calibrated speed meters? DD |
Use your GPS, 147 mph GPS speed and ran out of track and only 4th gear. At that speed no time to look down at spedo that is probably inacurate anyway. GPS records top speed for review later.

What about coupling it with the Shelby Club and the Ferrari club. -make a day of it.
- split the cost, get some rivalry going. We probably need some help setting up the "track" procedures and safety measures AKA: Rules, but once we did that, we could have a yearly event generated . You could call it == Drag race with F18's or the "BBQ-Chicken-1000" Steve |
I've never worked on an event like this, so I'd be interested in getting some assistance.
Anybody else game, or am I blowin' smoke? DD |
1. I've done 140 MPH down the front straight at Thunderhill - I have a video camera that captured my Speedo. I did this run repeatedly.
2. Nor Cal SAAC and the Ferrari club have a lot of experience with Open Track events, such that if they like the idea, then I would look to them to drive the technical/safety aspects of the event. |

Well -- I am going to the Shelby Club meeting this Friday , and Kevin Enderby (track director FCA) is a friend, so i will pitch the idea and see what they think. -- I am interested from a BBQ Chicken standpoint since I have a street car only.
AKA Would be there , run the BBQ, find some hotties to run the timing equip., Steve |

You got that right ... especially when it comes to photos, I am always willing to take one for the team ... ;) - Tim |
Getting past 145 mph is difficult as I see from others who tried. There comes a point at which there seems to be an end of the fulminating acceleration and any gain in speed is dependent on aerodynamics.
Anyway, after that trip out to test top speed something has given, because my 427 SO is burning lots of oil, as the sidepipes tell. I must check the headgasket, maybe it has got a leak. With a Lambo you probably hit over 180mph with ease, but the Cobra gets to the 140mph mark so fast and with so little drama that makes you feel at the helm of the most powerfull machine on earth. I would not worry about what happens beyond 145mph, which is a not legal speed anywhere bar German Autobahns. The brutal acceleration and 145mph is enough for me. |
