Need a Tow or Borrow a Trailer
I need to get my non running cobra to Grass Valley so it may run again some day.
Does any one know of an affordable and reliable towing company or does anyone have a trailer I can borrow or rent?
I can't rent a trailer from the rental joints because they say my truck thats rated to tow 5500lbs isn't big enough to tow my 2300lb car.

Can't you tell the trailer place you'll be using it for some sheets of drywall or anything other then your car? |

You should be able to rent a standard 76" car trailer using any standard sized pickup. Now if you have a Ranger or an S10 sized vehicle then maybe not. If you have a tow capicity of 5500 LBS, then it should not be a mini truck. Although you did not say what your tow vehicle was.
Remember that what you are towing (as far as your tow rating is concerned) has to include the trailer.

AAA premier card is good for two hundred miles at a time......good enough to bring my cobra from napa to yuba city.........

You can try a tow dolly if the rear of the car dosent hit the ground you can tow at 60 mph. and not over load your truck as the weight of the Cobra is mostly on the rear wheels.

.... but only if the Cobra is licensed. You can't have unlicensed wheels riding on the road.

Mike,
I know when hauling a trailer, the tow vehicle has to have a strong enough transmission and brakes to handle the extra load ... the rental company is probably also working off of insurance guidelines.
If your truck is not up to the task maybe you could rent a more heavy duty truck and use that to pull the trailer.

My truck is a 2009 F150. The rental places all say I have to have an F250.
I only have AAA plus which gets me 100 miles but I already used the 4 free tows for the year which started last July (at least I get my money's worth)
The car used to run until the new MSD distributor with the roller cam compatible gear ate the gear on my roller cam.

Mike,
There is no reason they should not let you tow a 76" car trailer with a Cobra replica on it. Try a different rental place. I have hauled mine with a rented 76" car trailer using my 06 1/2 ton Chevy Silverado at least 4 times. Of course I have a tow package with a drop hitch.
If you are using a bumper only I could see why. The bumper only would set the tongue of the trailer too high.

Try to contact John Rymer up in the Sacto area. He might be persuaded to help; his rig (don't recall but I think it's a big Ford F350 pickup) is set up with a "covered" trailer with a winch inside and a low ramp; trailer is setup with an anti-sway(don't recall the actual term) device to dampend side-to-side movement. He hauled mine from Yuba City back to Sunnyvale going 80mph and no problem keeping the trailer steady. If you have someone follow, then you can take off and he has just a 1 hour ride back home. I paid for all his fuel and lunch + a nice tip as a thanks for taking up his day.
Just a thought.

Thanks for the help.
I got a trailer from Uhaul. I tried to use them the last time I took my car to the track. I wanted to take it back to the same place I rented it from but they would only let me have it for one day and they wouldn't negotiate and wanted to charge a bunch extra if I kept it longer.
Now that I'm going one way and dumping it in Grass Valley, I get it for 3 days at the same rate....go figure
