New Spark Plug wires?
Might be time to look at new spark plug wires. (also cap and rotor)
World 427w, TWM fuel injection, Accel Gen 7 system. Great HP! :3DSMILE: Which wires are you using? Any recommendations? |
Got mine at the Dollar Store Ron.........:LOL:
|
Taylor 9mm or MSD.
|
MSD's have the lowest ohm rating. What happened to the Taylors that World built it with?
|
Really,.... what do they read and what's the highest rated company ?
I haven't had problems with either. |
Taylor "409" Spiro Pro Race wire (10.4mm) on my car.
IMHO, Taylor makes a first-quality product. If you go with Taylor, here are a couple of tips I learned, since I just went through changing my wires: 1)Buy the pro-grade ratcheting stripper-crimper pliers and you'll save alot of time and get a factory-type job. Don't buy the cheap ones or the "stipper/crimper blocks" that are used in a vice. Taylor has them all on their website. www.taylorvertex.com 2)If you have a modern "HEI" distributor cap and don't want the standard HEI-type boots with the nipple on the top, order a set of the "Low Profile HEI boots. A cleaner look, for me anyways.. My 2 cents..... |
What are the best wires that also look like OEM equipment?

I got mine in black and they look OEM enough for me. |

Rodknock,
So, how did you get the center coil wire on the cap to work?? That's my challenge right now. Tight fit!!! I'm sure I'll figure it out tonight, but thought I'd ask.... |
Ford Racing -- they work just fine.
|
Taylor 9mm's.

1st off you will never notice the difference between the high end wires. You may think you do, but its all in your head.
However if you must have bragging rights, my head mechanic did a test with an ohm meeter a few years ago and MSD had the lowest even lower than Ford Racing. J |
Good input. Saw one of those plug wire testors at the local speed shop and was wondering if one was REALLY better than the other. I think it was a MSD unit. I want something durable, heat resistant, with good connectors. Time for preventive maintenance - cap, rotor, wires.
|
I'v been using MSD wires ofr a long time. Last year, I decided to try a set of Taylor wires. I didn't think they were any better, but I got a good deal on them.
Installation and performance is the same. Didn't notice any differance. Except that MSD provides a better crimping tool than Taylor does. I change my spark plugs pretty often, 6-8 time a year. With the MSD it wasn't a problem. With the taylors, the metal fixture would come loose and stay attached to the plug. By the end of the year I'd replaced or repaired 5 cables. I went back to MSD. |
Bob- 6-8 times per year.
Do they get fouled that much ? I would say you're running way too rich. |

I replace the secondary ignition system every winter, along with the Mallory ignition module. |
I am still mad at MSD about all the failed ignition boxes. -- so i have a mental block on giving them money for anything else./
