Oil temp gauge

Hi all, going to have to replace a oil temp gauge on my superformance 1721.
Anyone have the low down on how best to install the new gauge?
Thanks in advance for your input...

Glenn

Hey Glenn,

I haven't replaced my oil temp gauge, but I've spent a little time behind the dash. You'll probably be able to get good access to the oil temp gauge if you remove the tach.

Did it a while ago. No need to remove the tach, as the gauge is right behind the steering wheel. The hard part is pulling the old line through the hole in the dash. You might have to take a Dremmel and enlarge the hole slightly in order to pull the fitting through the firewall. I took the speedo cable off the speedometer and pulled it through the hole before trying to feed the oil temp fitting.

One thing to watch for is make sure you disconnect the battery first. That metal line feeds around the alternator once you disconnect it from the remote oil filter and while pulling it through the engine, it can short out if you touch any electrical components.

Also, since the line from the gauge is metal, buy some nylon wrap and wrap the line so it is wrapped in plastic while behind the dash. There are lots of electrical connections that can be shorted out if that line accidentally hits one while driving.

And finally, DON'T LOSE THE SMALL BRASS WASHER THAT FITS INSIDE THE END FITTING OF THE LINE WHERE IT SCREWS ONTO THE REMOTE OIL FILTER. IF YOU LOSE IT, IT WILL LEAK!
