New update. James couldn't find anything wrong except a scuffed plug wire. So he switched wires around, and all worked great.

We traveled from Monterey to San Luis Obispo..... what drive! Included Hearst Castle. Made an offer...... think they will counter offer.

Driving to dinner tonight, something busted. Sounds like another rocker. We'll pull apart in the morning.

Steve,
I can't help but wonder if you broke a 2nd rocker on your FE motor, are you getting enough oil to the top of the motor to cool the rockers, etc? Is it on the same side as the last rocker that broke? Is it possible the rocker shaft is possibly installed upside down or not enough oil is getting up there to the rockers? If you get stuck in CA with FE problems and can't figure it out, here is another number for you, call Tom Lucas at FE Specialties in Sacramento 916.339.0427 Hopefully its nothing serious. D

Thanks Duane, but we're home now.

Actually, by the end of the trip, I broke 3 rockers total. Two on the right, one on the left. None of the rockers show significant wear. Just a clean snap with no debri anywhere. When we heard the change in performance, we pulled over immediataly.

Doug, with Precision Oil Pumps, said it's a pure design flaw. He was surprised they lasted that long, 4500 miles. Racers were breaking them earlier, while guys who only drove low miles didn't have problems. The only common pattern was they broke during a second run after the engine cooled down after a long run (longer than 100 miles). All three were within 300 miles. It was like they hit their life expectancy. I've made 200 mile runs before this trip.

Doug is going to replace everything, except the shaft, for free. Rockers, shims, stands nuts and spacers. The new rocker design is significantly thicker. Even though he doesn't work for the original company any more. That's a real stand up guy.

The second Texas contingent would like to thank Kathleen & Doug for hosting our arrival in San Jose and leading our caravan down to the Santa Cruz pier for lunch. We all appreciate, both contingents, everything you have done for us and hope you will join us at our annual event at the end of March 2011 at San Marcos, TX.

I will be posting photosgraphs of our cruise on our web site www.bwanasnake.com and hope you enjoy.

Sincerely,
Gary & Ann

Finallly rested and caught up at work. It was tough to hand over the car to be transported back to TX. I just was not ready to leave.

Great PEOPLE - you guys are the best. Great Hosts, great ride, great time. Can't thank you enough.

Herman - Any way you can sent me the pictures you took on a CD. I know your camera was DSLR, with high pixel count, the JPGs would be quite large.

Did anyone receive the over head photos that were taken by the professor when we were overlooking the Golden Gate? I think Mike gave him his e-mail address.

Got your address Francis. I'll try to send the cd via a cardboard shipper (hopefully it won't get bent or anything.) or just a bubble pouch.

You are the man. Thanks for all that you and the BACC did to make our trip to the coast a success.
