Saturday the 5th

Any plans for a drive on Saturday?? The last one got cut short due to car problems. I have it all back together but haven't got it out yet. Spent three nights working on my daughters 03 Grand Cherokee. What a pain in the a$$. Had about the same problem as the cobra. Would just shut off while driving!!!!!

Well, since I had such a crazy week, and didn't spend much time with Danette, I am getting up later and maybe heading to the coast or something.
Took the car for a ride tonight, and all seems to be good. I had to show this guy in his Z06 how quick my car is in second!!!!!!

ah Scott, you know that ain't fair to spank the new cars like that. :D

scootter 02-05-2011 03:56 PM

I know!!!!!:o

Might be a god thing I didn't go this morning. Car ran great last night, then when Danette and I went for a ride today i got some sputtering. Pull over to check the bowls and they were full. Figured I would go back closure to home and it would sputter bad in corners. Got it the driveway to check the fuel again and noticed the pressure a bit under 6 psi. As I watched it it dropped as low as 3.5 psi. WTF. Just my luck. So I need to check that out now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Looked like a great morning ... sorry to have missed you guys.

Scott ... maybe clogged fuel filter or is that too easy? ... did you ever figure out the electrical problem, or has it 'fixed' itself

wanab5150 02-07-2011 10:59 AM

Hey Scott

You've probably already done what I'm about to say but if you haven't maybe check it out... ... If you have a Holly (POS) fuel pump change it out for an Aeromotive or similar. Holly's fail all the time. Superformance come with them and I found out the hard way less than 2000 miles after I bought the car. The 7lb. pressure Aeromotive should be more than enough and you won't need to put a regulator on it (another part to fail).

If you have a regulator, it may have a bad diapfram or orfice depending what kind you have.

I'm sure you've changed the fuel filter. Even if you have 10 lbs. of pressure, the pressure can fluctuate if there's gunk in it to intermittently cork it up.

If you haven't set the floats, turn on the key to start the fuel pump. Remove the float bowl screws and a slight bit of gas should drip then stop and the gas should be level with the bottom of the hole just on the brink of dripping.

good luck buddy.....hope you get it sorted out soon. Better now than mid Summer.....tom

Tim,

I'm sure I got the electrical problem solved as I decided to replace the box, coil and ignition switch ( I had the box for a while so this was all a cheap fix). As for the fuel problem, I haven't looked at it yet. I decided to ride my dirt bike Sunday since it generally doesn't let me down. I will start with the filter and work my way back. The Holley pump also has a small screen on the inside, plus I want to make sure it is getting it's 12vlts it deserves.

Tom, I have also heard that the Holley pumps had issue's, but I am up to 20k plus miles on mine, plus I have a new one in my cupboard I can put in if it is the pump. My car originally cam with a Carter fuel pump rated to drive a Volkswagon or gokart!!!!!!

The one good thing about a crappy Holly is that if you can reach it and tap on it, they will work until you turn off the ignition again.
Carry a long stick!
