Engine Almost done
For the past few months I've been slowly building (rebuilding ) my 347; most of the days it's been too cold but in just these past two weeks, with the help of another FFR builder in San Jose helping me past the stuck drain plug, I've taken it from a sort block:

I spent a lot of today just on the water pump to ensure it's sealed well. I'm almost done as you can see. Need to clean up the valve cover gaskets and install them and after the picture was taken, I replaced the air filter with a new one. Hope to get the car back on the road by March . |
Herman,
You have made great progress ! :) The new heads and valve gear look good, along with those updates, any other changes to the motor? Any idea how much more power the motor will be producing ? |
The camshaft is a CompCams XE282HR. Has a little more lift and longer duration so it will be lopey. The centerline gap is 106 deg. which is about 2 deg. more than the original XE274HR at 104 deg. This translates to moving the horsepower up about 500RPM's so I'm thinking power will start to shoot up at about 3500 RPM's instead of the 2800-3000 RPM's I felt in the previous build.
The Vic. Jr. raises the flow quite a bit from it's little brother, RPM Performer ( 210cc per runner, v.s. 175cc per runner). The BG 650 DP will "suffice" but it is now the bottleneck; a 750CC might be more adequate but I'll check around to see if it's worth it. The engine should produce around 450HP given my current setup; probably more if I get the higher flow carb. |
How long did the first two builds last before rebuilding? That's a heck of a intake manifold. Will that and the air cleaner fit under the hood? looks like about 400 to 450 HP at the crank with 9to1, a good cam, and the Edelbrock heads etc......pretty! That would look nice sitting on a stand in my living room.

Nice work ! looking forward to seeing it run !

Build #2 is the short block from CHP as a 347 stroker fully balanced and blueprinted. Transferred the entire top-end from the other motor to this one; ran this for the last 11,000 miles but a leak at the timing chain cover forced me to take it apart and since I was in winter mod. mode, I decided to do a lot of other things - motor upgrade was the first. :D Static compression ratio is actually in the ball park of 10:1. Should be getting 450 HP. Bump stick appears to be a CompCam XE282HR. Heads are Vic. Jr. and Intake is a Vic. Jr. knock-off. It all fits under the hood. |
